the fuse for the shift lock blew. Happened to me once when I was futzing with wiring in the selector switch for my multi-map ecu. The fuse is located in the engine compartment.

Also if its and auto (don't know if it is or not) try giggleing the gear selector around in park. It may not have hit the safety switch.

so i check all my fuses and they were all good, but i replaced the key/shift lock fuse anyways. the result - key lock still won't release. so then i go to the trusty old owners manual and it said that it might not release the key if the car battery doesn't have enough charge. wtf. so i charged my battery, but its still it is not releasing. so i use the emergency switch as my last resort. (there is a emergency release button you can switch but you're not suppose to use it unless its an emergency.) Flipped the switched and it finally came out YAY. but when i put the key back in, it got stuck again. so i kept using the emergency key release button to release my key. after flipping that **** so much, my car wouldnt start.....so i stopped using that god forsaken button. After one day, I got my car to start again.....

So here are my questions and ill be grateful if someone can help me.

1. Why isn't my key releasing? (Just happened all of a sudden one day. I was involed in an accident though but for a week but the key would release in that week.

2. What does that god forsaken emergency release button actually do? (Everytime i press it, then start the engine, it laggs big time to start up. and if i press it too much, something *****ks up and my car doesn't start at all.)

3. My last resort, but does anyone know how to disbable key lock and does doing this create other problems?

These are my questions so far. Here are my car specs.

91 240sx SE model. auto transmission. completely stock.

thanks in advance for your help.

p.s. i did the steering wheel and shifter jiggle, doesn't solve anything.

Ok after laughing my *** off, i figured i would help out here. That button next to the key is a key release button. NOT an emergency button. It is there to stop you from removing the key if it is in gear. Now your starting problem has to be something else.

And you have no clue how hard it was to make that post wile laughing my *** off.

ok...im not that stupid and maybe my post wasn't as clear as i thought. so let me explain again. The "Key release button" in my car is stuck. So i can't press the button to release my key. And under the plastic trimming there is a "red switch" you can flip in case the "key lock button is stuck" and for some reason if you flip it too much, the car dies.

sorry if my previous post was unclear. still a funny situation though.

so help me out.
