key lock stuck in lock position

I was ripping out some wiring that a guy had put in for a system and i moved my steering wheel up to get more room. When i was done i hopped in and put the key in the ignition and the dinger goes off but i cannot move the key out of the lock position. Did i mess it up when i moved the steering wheel? How do i get it out of that lock position? The lock button is depressed.

EDIT* i was also pullin fuses and noticed two were blown so i took them out but that shouldn't matter right?

did you try to turn your steering wheel and then try to get it out?

The key is not stuck IN the ignition, but i put it in and it wont TURN out of the lock position.

Im assuming its an automatic? Is the car in park?

I had this problem right before I swapped my AT for a manual. Theres a green box that plugs in up underneath the steering column, is that still plugged in? Im pretty sure I read here before that if that box is unplugged it wont give you your key back.

Another thing...there is a little switch next to the AT shifter under the plastic console piece and all that. This thing lifts to unlock your key, but for some odd reason mine decided to break. I had to put a zip tie around it and lift it up every time I put the car in park to get it to release the key. (sorry I can't be more descriptive...its been a long time since I had to figure out this problem.)

You are right, actually i put the car in neutral and rolled it out the garage to sweep up and when i put it in, It wasn't rested on the parking pawl. So i just pushed it forward and click, got in , and the key turned. I just wasn't sure if that was busted too since my car has been giving me some crap lately. good to go though thanx.

P.S. How much was the conversion to manual? Pricey or not to bad? I hate ATs but it was cheaper to get one with AT for now.

I paid in around $1100 for mine, but I bought a lot of new parts. If I remember right, all the parts I needed off the donor car were $700, but then I bought a new clutch, flywheel, fluid lines, and some other little parts.
