When I go over bumps I hear this key jingle noise. It's in the front left/Driver side area.
From my experience with cars, I have never heard a noise like this. I want to see if I can fix this my self, like if it was a loose bolt or something. If I take it in the dealer there gonna keep the Rogue for a couple of days. I need the Rogue everyday to get me place to place.

The only time I have time to take the Rogue in would be after May 15th. I've noticed the noise since January. I hope it's not a ball joint and seizes up on me.

2011 Nissan Rogue SV AWD.
I will record the noise if necessary.

ball joints wont jingle like keys. they will clunk.
how many miles? fwd or awd? does it happen when accelerating or in motion?

check all door pockets, center console, glove box for loose change, etc.

How long have you had the issue? If it's recent it may be as simple as a tool left in the engine compartment by a careless mechanic after your last service.

The car has 11000 miles Awd. I can't relate any suspension component to this noise unless there was a loose bolt and the Walt was moving around.
It's only noticeable when I open my Windows. It happens when whether I accelerated or not.
I live in Iowa so, we do have liquid rust on the road.

I haven't checked the half shaft or boot yet so, imma check those out then I have time.

Forgot the mention that I was hit around that area too. P/s rack, lca, strut, halfshaft and job assemble, fender, doors, and bumper replaced.

make sure its not your brake pads simply scuffing your rotor as it spins.

My Suspicion on this case would probably be Sway bar bushing/link or Rotor shield
Sway bar linkage had a little more movement from the drivers side than the passenger. Bushings looked a little dry too.

Rotor shield looked like its been dented a little bit.
I'm gonna call Nissan and see if they could look at the Rogue for no longer than 4 hours and see if its a easy fix.

if your rotor shield was dragging on the rotor it would sound like your dragging chains behind you lol
can you video tape this sound upload it? its tough to figure out what it is

I've been frustrated with this noise for a long time, I know exactly what you're describing. Every winter I forget about it because my windows are never down, then in the spring I'm reminded of it when I roll the window down. A couple of years ago I was sure I traced it to the flimsy exhaust heat shield, mine is quite bent up and I've bent it back a couple times and the shop did it for me once too. It's very thin flimsy narrow gauge aluminum that bends easily.

Anyway my noise always returns louder than ever, I have not yet checked under the car this year but the other day I heard the noise again with the window down in drive through. I've been concerned about my exhaust rotten egg smell for the past couple years as well, suspecting a bad catalytic converter, and lately I've been wondering if a failed cat with loose internal parts could be making the metallic rattle/jingling noise.

I wish I had a solid answer for you, but the exhaust heat shields are something to check for bends/deformation - it's thin enough metal that you can bend it back by hand if need be.

I noticed that when the car warms up it makes the sound so, its a bolt on problem.
Imma take a rubber mallet and hit the cat while its cold then warmed up. I'll probably check the heat shield too.

make sure your its not just a simple squeaky a/c pump clutch. they make a similar sound = especially in 4cyl engines.

I taped the cat and all my heat shields. They seem secure.
I want to look at the p/s rack but, can't get to it.

I doubt its the a/c comp. clutch. I've probably only ever used ac for 1 hour over my 12000miles.
I'll check the pulleys though.

if you have used the defroster/defogger that uses the AC

turn the AC on and see if thats the sound while it cycles

TaiLuu, any luck finding the source of the noise?

Mine is very loud and annoying still, I'm still pretty sure it's related to the exhaust, possibly broken pieces of cat converter that rattle around every time I hit a bump. Also I get a very strong rotten egg smell from under the car when it's hot (have for the past 2+ years), if the fan is on the intense smell gets sucked into the cabin when the vehcle comes to a stop and leaves me scrambling to hit recirulate or turn the fan off. If it is a bad cat I assume I should be seeing a check engine light soon, but I believe there are some codes that get stored but don't trigger the CEL.....by the end of the summer I really would like to have this noise and nauseating stink gone. The dealer hasn't been any help on the two seperate occaissions that I mentioned the problem to them.

funny you mention this - today driving to work, i get this awful smell of burned fur/hair. it stopped after about 2minutes. it was almost certainly the same smell of fur/hair and not eggs.

post your video's of the sounds- and we can go from there.

I know it is off topic but I remember I read some where that you have to run AC for 10-15 minutes every month to keep the o rings of the AC system lubricated.

On the other hand, when you adjust the climate control knob to windshield defrost, the AC automatically turns on...

Took it in to Nissan 2days ago, Told them I had a bearing noise around the drive belt and a heat shield rattle noise.
They said it was hard to diagnosis the problem, because they didn't hear the noise.
They clipped down the heat shield and I took it 5 miles home didn't hear a noise, but thats just 5 miles we'll see down the long road for any noise.

Cotter pin of the Hub assembly made this noise.

Hmm, I'll have to check the service manual, I'm not sure exactly where that cotter pin is located but I'd like to check it out and see if I can eliminate that noise, it's noisier than ever and the dealer shop has no idea and it's too expensive to pay for 2 or 3 hours of troubleshooting with no gaurantee of success.

Thanks for letting me know!

a hub cotter pin prevents the axle bolt (often referred to as the castle nut) from backing out ;)
you gotta remove the wheel, and often the "dust cap" to expose the cotter pin & axle bolt.

Thanks a lot my man, those are perfectly detailed photos as usual!! I can't see how that could be causing the loud metallic rattle noise I'm getting when hitting sharp bumps, but I guess anything is possible. I'm still convinced it's the heat shield even though I can't seem to poinpoint exactly where the problem area is.....

iv never heard of these rattling loud enough for someone to hear. maybe if your up against a fast-food drive thru wall, and you hear it gently.
but then again, anything is possible. his could have cracked (because they are very soft metal and require you to bend the legs sharply). if his soft aluminum broke, that would cause a pretty steady "coin in a jar" jingle sound.

take rubber mallet to your heat shields, and see. its probably going to be the one closest to the headers. mine in the maxima did that while sitting in D with the A/C on. the rpm's were just right to cause vibration enough to jingle. took a rubber mallet, then a metal one and dented it to the point where it was stuck and didnt jingle/rattle LOL

I know this is an old thread, but, we have a Rogue as a rental and have been hearing this pinging or dinging sound whatever you want to call it.

We hear it with the windows closed and usually when hitting a bump. Not every bump, just several of them.

I thought at first my daughter was playing a game on her phone.

I cannot narrow this sound down to anything.

I'm just the curious type. Wish I knew what it was. Nothing seems to loose anywhere so, I'm not worried.

If anyone has ever figured this out, I'd be interested in knowing what it was.

Thanks.
