ball joints wont jingle like keys. they will clunk.TaiLuu wrote:When I go over bumps I hear this key jingle noise. It's in the front left/Driver side area.
From my experience with cars, I have never heard a noise like this. I want to see if I can fix this my self, like if it was a loose bolt or something. If I take it in the dealer there gonna keep the Rogue for a couple of days. I need the Rogue everyday to get me place to place.
The only time I have time to take the Rogue in would be after May 15th. I've noticed the noise since January. I hope it's not a ball joint and seizes up on me.
2011 Nissan Rogue SV AWD.
I will record the noise if necessary.
make sure its not your brake pads simply scuffing your rotor as it spins.TaiLuu wrote:The car has 11000 miles Awd. I can't relate any suspension component to this noise unless there was a loose bolt and the Walt was moving around.
It's only noticeable when I open my Windows. It happens when whether I accelerated or not.
I live in Iowa so, we do have liquid rust on the road.
I haven't checked the half shaft or boot yet so, imma check those out then I have time.
Forgot the mention that I was hit around that area too. P/s rack, lca, strut, halfshaft and job assemble, fender, doors, and bumper replaced.
if your rotor shield was dragging on the rotor it would sound like your dragging chains behind you lolTaiLuu wrote:My Suspicion on this case would probably be Sway bar bushing/link or Rotor shield
Sway bar linkage had a little more movement from the drivers side than the passenger. Bushings looked a little dry too.
Rotor shield looked like its been dented a little bit.
I'm gonna call Nissan and see if they could look at the Rogue for no longer than 4 hours and see if its a easy fix.
make sure your its not just a simple squeaky a/c pump clutch. they make a similar sound = especially in 4cyl engines.TaiLuu wrote:I noticed that when the car warms up it makes the sound so, its a bolt on problem.
Imma take a rubber mallet and hit the cat while its cold then warmed up. I'll probably check the heat shield too.
I doubt its the a/c comp. clutch. I've probably only ever used ac for 1 hour over my 12000miles.ImStricken wrote: make sure your its not just a simple squeaky a/c pump clutch. they make a similar sound = especially in 4cyl engines.
if you have used the defroster/defogger that uses the ACTaiLuu wrote:I taped the cat and all my heat shields. They seem secure.
I want to look at the p/s rack but, can't get to it.I doubt its the a/c comp. clutch. I've probably only ever used ac for 1 hour over my 12000miles.ImStricken wrote: make sure your its not just a simple squeaky a/c pump clutch. they make a similar sound = especially in 4cyl engines.
I'll check the pulleys though.
funny you mention this - today driving to work, i get this awful smell of burned fur/hair. it stopped after about 2minutes. it was almost certainly the same smell of fur/hair and not eggs.kerrton wrote:TaiLuu, any luck finding the source of the noise?
Mine is very loud and annoying still, I'm still pretty sure it's related to the exhaust, possibly broken pieces of cat converter that rattle around every time I hit a bump. Also I get a very strong rotten egg smell from under the car when it's hot (have for the past 2+ years), if the fan is on the intense smell gets sucked into the cabin when the vehcle comes to a stop and leaves me scrambling to hit recirulate or turn the fan off. If it is a bad cat I assume I should be seeing a check engine light soon, but I believe there are some codes that get stored but don't trigger the CEL.....by the end of the summer I really would like to have this noise and nauseating stink gone. The dealer hasn't been any help on the two seperate occaissions that I mentioned the problem to them.
I know it is off topic but I remember I read some where that you have to run AC for 10-15 minutes every month to keep the o rings of the AC system lubricated.TaiLuu wrote: I doubt its the a/c comp. clutch. I've probably only ever used ac for 1 hour over my 12000miles.

a hub cotter pin prevents the axle bolt (often referred to as the castle nut) from backing outkerrton wrote:Hmm, I'll have to check the service manual, I'm not sure exactly where that cotter pin is located but I'd like to check it out and see if I can eliminate that noise, it's noisier than ever and the dealer shop has no idea and it's too expensive to pay for 2 or 3 hours of troubleshooting with no gaurantee of success.
Thanks for letting me know!

iv never heard of these rattling loud enough for someone to hear. maybe if your up against a fast-food drive thru wall, and you hear it gently.kerrton wrote:Thanks a lot my man, those are perfectly detailed photos as usual!! I can't see how that could be causing the loud metallic rattle noise I'm getting when hitting sharp bumps, but I guess anything is possible. I'm still convinced it's the heat shield even though I can't seem to poinpoint exactly where the problem area is.....
