I still can not get the key out of the ignition. I played with the anti-shift releasing button and now it wants to keep the key. I pissed it off.lol I was told to disconnect the battery overnight to see if that would work but it did not. I was also told to check the Anti-shift relay. But for some reason I can not locate this relay. Any clue on where to locate the relay guys thks. My budy with his Mazda 929 is tearing me up over this one. We have to take his car out to lunch because I can't lock mine anymore. From a Q to a 929 the shame is killing me.

Also still looking for a good shade tree guy to do a chain guide job. In the Seattle wa area

It may be a totally mechanical issue, not solvable by any electronic means, and unrelated to any switches, etc. My key gets stuck in the door lock, and if I want to use the car, I have to leave it unlocked on the street. Not exactly confidence inspiring.

If you do get it out, you might want to check out someone or something called McLock, or something similar. Do a search. They take a xerox of your key and cut a new one. Appears to take care of key wear issues, at least for some. Good luck - Pat

I had this happen on my Q.

First you should try turning the wheel left and right. That sometimes trips a sensor or something to allow the key to come out.

Also, try pushing in, towards the steering column, while you turn the key back to take it out.

On my Q, the problem was entirely mechanical. One of the tumblers inside the cylinder had broken and jammed in place, which would allow the key to be removed. $100 and 2 hours later and I had a rebuilt tumbler. It's a little bit "sloppier" then it was originally, but it's not too noticable if you're not paying attention to it

Mine had that problem, the key would not come out of the ignition.I took apart the steering console 6 screws and on the top of the key cylinder there is a small locking solenoid that keeps the key release button from moving, thus locking the key. I unscrewed it dropped it out of the way, problem solved. Easy job, medium philips head and small philips head, but be careful not to break plastic parts. Good Luck
