I am buying a 1995 Q45 with no key. How would I get the key? Do I need to give the Vin # to the dealer or call a locksmith?

I don't think a Locksmith would be able to build you a key. You will for sure have to call the dealer.

Dealer for sure.

The machine you need to cut a key like Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes, etc costs somewhere near $40-50,000. And then they still have to buy the software to get key codes to be able to cut originals. Only one place here has one, and is the Honda dealer; They can trace cut to make a duplicate but it sounds like you're up a creek.

A MASTER LOCKSMITH can rebuild the lock to a known indentation series but remember their are 2 doors, glove box and trunk locks.

Best to have Infiniti build you the oem series of keys from VIN.

Nothing worse than having a different key for each lock.

Be sure to PAY a Master technican on the Q to to spend a few hours inspecting the car so you don't end up with more than the average $3,000 in needed repairs. The point is every 12 year old used car for sale needs lots of work to return to near new functioning. It may have good paint and look good on the outside or inside but the expense is in things you can't see. Like new shocks, suspension, brakes, inside engine and transmission.

A missing set of the 5 keys provide brand new is a clue!

Dennis has good advice. To answer your question, the dealer can cut you a key. Infiniti of Scottsdale can also, but you may have to provide proof of ownership. **AND** if they locks have ever been replaced giving them the VIN won't work.

The dealer might also be able to give you the maintenance history with the VIN. Looking for replacement of locks is one thing.

As far as losing a key goes, I had both the original valet keys and that's all. Just the other week my wife lost one! With the remote no less! Still pisses me off!
