My wife's key fob (2007 G35) only works about 1 in 30 times and we have replaced the battery several times. I'm just going to replace the fob. I looked on ebay and saw some fobs for sale without the uncut key. Couldn't I just buy one of those and put her key in the new fob I buy? If I go this route, would I also have to get the valet key reprogrammed? The listing says something about getting a new valet key cut. I don't understand why if I will just use the same key and only reprogram the new fob. Could someone please explain the process I would need to go through?

Thanks for your help!!!

The big question is - why has your wife's fob failed? The 2nd fob is working fine?

Yes, you should be able to replace only the electronic part of the fob and keep all your physical keys as they are. Usually when people buy fobs it's because they've lost one - that's why the talk of recutting keys. There is a bit of confusion in that it's not the fob that gets programmed, it's your car which has to be programmed to accept communications from the new fob. This is a dealer thing, or at least a mechanic who has Nissan's computer interface and can "register" a new fob to your car.

Seems worth a try.

Ugh, I need a new key fob too.

I just got a used 2011 G37 from a used car dealer and they only gave me one key :frown:

(Wonder how often that happens)

I've read elsewhere on the web that some locksmiths may be able to reprogram stuff, but I guess not if it involves the car

Same thing happened when I bought the wife's sedan. I bought a fob on ebay and had the dealer cut the key and program it. Only saved me $40 bux or so....

I have a 2007 G35 Sedan, the keyless entry works randomly, I see the key draining symbol on the dash. I have replaced the battery in the fob, but still have issues. I can use the buttons on the fob to open and lock the doors, because sometimes the push button on the door itself does not work. Sometimes the push button start does not work either, but I can plug in the fob and start the card.Because it's random occurrence, I'm not sure if it's an electrical issue with the car itself, or if there is something wrong with the key fob. Any ideas?
thanks!

I'd guess it's the fob. If all works normally when the fob is plugged in that's a clue. I'd get a dealer to check it though. New fobs are expensive and you don't want to buy one if that's not it.

It is the actuator .This is a very common problem . I make door lock actuator repair kits so you dont have to go thru alot of work and spend a bunch of money . Any one with a door lock actuator problem is welcome to go to my website for help or to buy a repair kit to fix your factory actuator .

^^^^ If you press the button on the door twice and it does not unlock any of the doors then you either have a fob issue or an electrical issue in the vehicle. If it's a single door then it's possible an actuator but in this case it sounds like the fob

How often should I be replacing the Key Fob battery? The dealer tells me annually, but I question that. It has been less than a year since my last replacement and I am getting a low battery warning again. Does that sound correct? Could there be another reason why the battery is draining so quickly?

Annually should do it but it depends on how "fresh" the replacement battery is. Beyond that, sitting on the fob or holding the buttons down for extended periods could cause early fob battery drain. (And you'll find all your car's windows rolled down.)

Best to take your car's advice; if it reports low fob battery then it's time.
