I lost the insides of my key fob!!! it opened up and lost the battery and other part. so i have the fob with the key still intact. dealer wants 130 dollars for a new fob but using MY exisitng key that is in the key fob now.

can i order a key fob with an uncut key online and use that one?can i program it myself by doing the ignition thing (turn on 6 times, etc...)?would i still be able to NOT put a key in the ignition and start it with the new fob and my old exisitng key that is in the broken fob now?anyone have a link to a keyfob for me so i know im getting the right one?

should i just have the dealer do it for 130 bux?

p.s. my wife has one that works already fine if this matters.

thanks!

There is nothing worse than a gutless fob.

Anyway you can get one on e-bay very reasonable. I recently purchased one for $15.25 with free shipping. But if you order one make sure the numbers on the one you want to buy match the ones in your fob. You cannot program it yourself, it has to be done at the dealer. They charged me $50 to program three fobs and cut the key. It doesn't matter if the fob is for a Altima, Maxima or any other Nissan as long as the code numbers match.

Good luck.

thanks for the reply. looks like this one might do it. the numbers match even though mine is a 2005 not 07. so i buy this and have the dealer set it up for my truck? any diea how long it takes for them to "code" it for my truck? my dealer is very shady here and seems to charge a boatload for anything. if i know how long it takes i can at least say something about what they charge me if it seems too much.

thanks

As long as the numbers match there should not be a problem. The used one I purchased for my Maxima was listed for an Altima. It will take around 30 minutes or so to reprogram the fobs and it will cost around $50. Some members of the Maxima forum I visit have reported reprogramming for less but both dealers in my area quoted the same. Call around, you may get a good deal on the reprogramming. And you may try an Infiniti dealer, they can do it also. Good luck.

When buying these things off ebay, make sure they were not units taken from the 2007 recall.

Look at the attached bulletin which describes how you can tell:

Yes, Nissans were affected too.
