My key broke off in the ignition. And the steering wheel is locked. My neoghbor is a locksmith he tried to get the key piece out but it pushed it farther in. The spare will go in but it wont turn over. How do you get the ignition out. Guy at z1 told me my best bet was to drill the pins out that hold the ignition lock cylinder braket to the collum and to re tap them. Can anyone help me thanks in advance- Ryan

Have you tried a super strong magnet? Unless it's the Ti key, then you're screwed :-/

This is how I did it in my 240, it sucked horribly bad, but it worked. Im not sure on the 300 if you have enough room, but I believe they share the same lock.

UPDATE: I got the steering lock assembly off, took it apart and got my key piece out. I drilled out the pins to get the cylinder out of the lock housing, and now the holes are loose.(slightly oblong) So seeing as how my key I have left is a copy of a copy of a worn spare. I guess tomorrow I'm going to order a whole new assembly from the parts house. That way i will have a new lock, fresh key and all. Only crappy thing is using separate keys for door and ignition but for now its chill. I figure in the future I'll get key-less entry. Thanks for everyone- Ryan

This exact thing happened to me about a year ago the keys for this car are very thin and brake alot. first remove all panels under the steering wheel and around the steering wheel. then if i remember there are two screws holding the bracket around the steering column. you have to drill them out. after than remove the bracket, after that you should be able to just pull the ignition switch off from the back of the ignition. and remove the ignition and until you get a new one you car start your car with a flat head. you can unplug the wire from under the dash it will not mess with starting the car, (well mine did not and i have a 90) it is a closed system also you can not open the ignition you have to get a new one just keep looking on the forums for a parted car i think i got mine for around $45 with a key and bracket. hope this helps

A good locksmith can re-key a cylinder to accept a different key. Just gotta find the right place. Your neighbor probably won't fit the bill, seeing as he couldn't even extract a broken key. Call around and ask about re-keying an ignition cylinder and who can do it.

If you cant i got my new one from someone on nico for 35 with a key, just look for someone who is parting out Zs, and when you get it make copy's and be very careful with the next one because i know these ones brake very easily.
