Sweet. $705 down my drain whole of a car my QX4 is.

Got water pump replaced when I had the timing belt done year and a half ago. Found out it's leaking. So, labor, new pump, tensioners (that started making noise right after timing belt was replaced) and I'm out more money.

So, yet more money down the drain on this thing.

So far, I need the following done on my rig in the near future:Valve cover gasket replacementNew AC compressor (whenver it s***s itself)Complete rear bushing replacementFront right bearing (could be repacked, but left was replaced couple months ago) And probably need to transmission worked on sometime in the next 60K miles.

So, should I keep this bish and run her into the ground or should I try to find myself an '04 QX4? I really want a 07 Land Cruiser (but can't see the wife allowing us to buy another $30K vehicle)

Mind you, I'm close to paying this off but just recently got out from being underwater on the loan after last summer killed the value on our rigs. I'd barely break even if someone crashed into me tomorrow.

If it's almost paid off I say keep it and run it into the ground.

Man im on the same boat. My PF looks and drives great on the outside but the inside needs alot of work. Need new struts, shocks, little work on the torque convertrt and just paid close to 1g to get ball joints, and controls arms fixed. Thats why im trying to sell mine but if doesnt work out im gonna spend extra money and fix it up .

I look around every once in a while to see what's out there. Seems reasonable to pick up a newer model Q with low miles (not to many $) - almost done it a few times. But i'm always pulling back waiting for the no-payment times to put away some green. So I keep it running. Looking for mine to be a 3rd car at some point. It kind of depends on your tolerence for holding out.

Well, if you'd stop jumping it, you wouldn't have so many issues.

I am a firm believer in having cars that are paid off. Firstly, you don't have additional debt and you can always sell it if you really need money. Secondly it's cheaper. I don't care if you spend $3,000 on a new transmission, you're have still spent less money in a year than you would have making $300 a month payments.

*Rant on*Don't give me the line about newer cars needing less repairs. The biggest piece of crap I own in my 2000 pickup that I bought when it was 4 years old with 60k miles. It's now 9 years old with 80k miles and there is so moch broken/rattling stuff on it that it drives me crazy. My locks don't work, the heater fan squeals, I have fixed three coolant leaks, the fuel pump and regulator went bad at 65k miles and no matter what I do, I can't keep it in alignment.

Meanwhile, my 180k Corsica, my 250k Rabbit, and my 120k QX4 are all running smooth with almost no problems.*Rant off*

Trust me: I want the payments stopped.

But, even after spending the $735 last night, it still makes that noise at 2000 rpm. Changed out the idler/tension pulleys and still makes the noise. In fact, it's worse now since the other ones aren't making noise and now sounds more chirpy in its whine.

I do love the thought of picking up an '04 QX4 (and getting an Infiniti Elite warranty on it). Near same issues I have now, lower miles, moar powa injen. And would only cost a few grand more than what I owe on this POS.

It's just hard to decide. I love my car, I'm just tired of being afraid to drive it in fear of what's going to break next. It hasn't been off pavement in 3 years because I've always been worried about something. Tires, transmission, coolant leaks, CV boots, etc.

Just for reference, here's what I've had to replace or have had gone wrong:Blew transmission seal X2replaced front axles (cheaper than fixing torn boots)all new coolant hosestiming belt, etc.water pump X2front passenger wheel bearing replacedneeds valve cover gasketssevere transmission slippagefront struts replacedrear shocks need replacingall rear bushings are cracked (front ones likely too)

So, all in all, I'm looking at spending nearly 3/4 of what it's worth to get it back to tip top shape. Like boise boy said, *rant off*

that really sucks man. i use to beat the living daylights out of my pathfinder and only had to replace belts(knock on wood). but yeahi promise to start takin car of it since it has to last me throughout college.

But seriously if your almost done paying it. just try to hold on till then man. Not worth buying another car and having to trade it in for alot lower value and loosing money in the long run. i mean wut else can go wrong?

good luck though.

What in the hell! I have abused my QX4 like a red headed step child and it serves me great. Yes i did replace the AC compressor tho. But i was running it with no freon (rock hit condensor in Baja)

how can axle be cheaper than boots?!? Ive had the boots replaced before, and i think the axle was more. These Nissan wheel bearings NEVER go bad (have you ever heard of anybody replacing one?) They just need to be repacked every so often... and i have driven my QX4 with the hubs fully submerged underwater... in SALT water!!!

And how did a new water pump start leaking?!? Poor quality parts?

Everything sounds very suspicious to me. What mechanic are you going to? In this new economy, people are becoming more shady than ever....

Dont forget my boy Les is really legit, check his reviews

http://www.yelp.com/biz/snappy...diego

But i totally understand your frustration, damn...... Your QX4 sways on the freeway?

What else can go wrong?... *knock on wood*

Still going to express tire. Not a fan, but have credit line through them and wife's on maternity leave and we're waiting on $$$. I have snappy's info on my fridge for when I make the transition over. He'll be replacing my pump for me I assume whenver it finally s***s itself.

Yeah, faulty part. Probably a mix of my luck and bad service. Same place tried to tell me I needed new boots since they saw grease on them. Never needed replacing. I think ET has an issue with cycling mechanics. Never see the same one there. Just the manager stays the same. He tries to take care of me though. Always jacks up my car and lets me look underneath my rig for as long as I want.

New axles were cheaper because I was in Sunnyvale. Shop rate is like $90 an hour there. Saved about $360 in labor on boots and spent an extra $50 each an axle in parts.

Barely any sway at the moment. But, it's SLOWLY getting worse. I checked every bushing, all are cracked.

I'm thinking I'll keep paying this thing off and keep my eyes out for a low mileage '03 QX4. I've looked around and nothing compares to our rides except LandCruisers and LX430's in terms of luxury, capability and reliability. And '03 QX4's are pretty cheap these days. I figure if I can get half the mileage, a VQ35 and only spend a few grand more than I have in value, I'll be golden.

With my luck, it doesn't seem to matter from one beater/gaping wallet hole to the next

Update: Had noise looked at, it's the AC compressor.

Yay. Goign to have get one and have someone put it on and charge it. So, looks like another $400 will be coming out of my pocket in the next 3 months! Yay!

Man that thing is farked. Not only is the compressor on its way out, the clutch on it too is f***ed up.

Yeah, it's still blowing cold air.

ANd it continues...

Now the front washer fluid jets aren't working. Not sure if it's clogged or dead motor, but I'm thinking dead motor.

Hey man if its almost paid off run it to the ground.

My pathfinder is at about 195000K and its running great "knock on wood" no real problems. just had some power steering and battery issues. just flushed out the coolant when i got an oil change on the weekend.

these trucks can take a decent beating from my experience. dealing with all the salt from winter up here i seem to be generating some rust issues.

anyway good luck with your truck Bro

That does it. I'm keeping this b**** until I move somewhere else.

Some f***er last night scraped my DS rear bumper corner. LOTS of paint transfer. No damage as far as I can tell. Not even an "I'm Sorry" note. Nothin.

Un-f***ing-believable. People are f***ing animals around where I live. Too many god damned immigrants. They may have a right to be here, but I sure as hell don't have to live near them. I can't believe how many Somali's (Assuming, as they're black arabs) have moved in my area. Not that I care, but damn they can't drive. The men (who mostly drive cabs) drive like it's Africa - lines, signs and lights are OPTIONAL. The women drive like blind grandmas - SLOOOOOOW, too much time looking around, and pulling manuevers that require everyone else to pull emergency manuevers to avoid hitting them.

And the mexicans don't do much better. Although my major complaint with them is the "garage sale" they seem to have every weekend, all weekend long. My wife is mexican and hates being lumped in with those "cochinos".

And then us white people. We park like complete d!ck. Boxed in? Too bad! Didn't pull up to make the space usable behind us? Go f*** yourself.

I'm mainly pissed about the paint damage, but this other crap's been bottling up. Also didn't help some Somali woman dropping off her kid at school and WAITING for god knows what (no kids in car) pulled up 6 inches behind my bumper, barely leaving me room to get out this morning.

/END RANT

hahahahha lots of somalians and eritreans but i think most of them are Ethiopian. Where the women all wear the thing on their heads and their men all drive taxi cabs or work as security guards. Mostly taxi cabs. Very bizarre. Not sure why they decided to take over an industry when most of them dont know san diego and dont know how to drive!
