I just scored a pretty good deal on a Kenwood KAC- 745 4 channel amp. It says it can put out 75 watts per channel, or be bridged to put out 150 for 2 channels. I was wondering if this rating was for the rms power output per channel, or the maximum output per channel - am havign a hard time finding the details on this thing online.

I was also wondering if 75 watts per channel for two front speakers would be enough to power a pair of 6.5 inch Alpine SPS-17C2 since they are supposedly rated to 50 rms watts each and a 200 or so max watt output. Will it be enough to power those things?

Ok, apparently this model delivers 40 rms watts per channel. Now, I'm just looking for a quality set of speakers that won't break my wallet, lol.

On another side note, I was wondering if I shoudl just upgrade the rear speakers and plug them into the amp as well, or bridge the last two channels and power a smaller subwoofer. Would 110 rms watts be enough for enough bass?

You could run 4-4 ohm speakers and a 4 ohm sub on that amp at the same time. 110W will drive a sub. More power would be better but it can get you started.

5 speakers at a time? I'm a total audio n00b and I don't exactly see how that is possible with only 4 channels.

As for the sub question I had before, one of my ricer friends told me that with 110 rms watts, I won't hear anything (he has a 700 watt 12 inch sub). And another one of my friends who just is a music podigy tells me that 110 is fine, and that the sound quality and loudness the sub depends on the quality of the drivers used.

Would you guys have any guidelines for a good sub to purchase off of this amp?

never do that. You run the risk of overloading the amp, getting to hot, and going into protection, or worse. The 4 ch. will be perfect for those Alpines, get yourself a seperate amp for your sub. I'm not sure about where you live or what kind of deals you get on audio equipment, but I have a distributor and get equipment cheap, but you should be able to find some nice Infinity's for about $100, or even some nice Alpine's for around $80. Find yourself another amp for your sub though. If anything, I might have some used amps somewhere around for cheaper if you want me to look.

Yes you can actually. Wire both sets of speakers in series ( pos of one speaker to neg of the other ) this link will help

http://www.lalena.com/Audio/FAQ/Wiring/

connect two of them to channel one and the other two to channel two.

brigde last two for you subs.

this will not overload you amp because the channels one and two are seeing 8 ohms and the bridge channels should see either 4 or 2 depending on the sub (single voice coil or dual voice coils)

I think I may avoid the sub idea alltogether now, lol. I want good bass, not loud and deafening bass. I think I'll run a nice set of Alpines in the front, and a set of Sony 6.5 inch Xplod crappy generics in the rear ( I got them for next to nothing, and they normally cost around 40 to 50 bucks anywhere else).

I just tried installing it last night. Followed installation instruction perfectly.....and.....it's junk.

I used the voltameter and it showed no continuity...I got ripped off.
