Hi,

I just installed a DDX512 dvd unit in my dash today, and I noticed that the screen has a flicker to it. It isn't noticeable when watching a movie, but you can see it when looking at menus. Is this normal, or do I have a defective unit? Thanks for your help.

did you use the harness adapter? or did you cut off the old harness and attach them to the new aftermarket DDx harness.... my guess is you probably did it the right way and used the harness... in that case, I don't know.. it sounds like a power failure issue for th unit.. you may have a defective unit... hopefully you bought it from a store and not ebay...

Thanks for the reply. I did use a harness, and luckily I bought it from Best Buy. Just to clarify, the screen never cuts in and out. It looks more like a slow refresh rate than anything.

.. so you mean that when the menu changes, it looks like there's a pause every time? if so, that's normal... all of their new units do that!

Thats not really it either. Its really hard to explain. If I am looking at a menu screen some of the buttons, horizontal lines, etc look almost like they are shaking because they have a really fast flicker to them. It also seems more prevalent with items that are light gray. It isn't that bad, I'm just wondering if I am expecting too much from a 7" display or if its defective? Thanks again.

IDK if I'd say you're expecting too much, the resolution on the Kenwood units leaves something to be desried.. Pioneer had a unit that was producing enhanced definition 480p quality!!! I have a better idea of what you're talking about, but i don't think that's normal.. take it back to your installer and ask them... if Best BUy installed it, then they may not know it either... its always a crap shoot with Best Buy or circuit city regarding installers.. they can be really good, or they can suck i terms of knowledge

Thanks for the help. I didn't think it was normal, but I have no prior experience with dvd head units so I wanted to make sure. I'll probably go check out the display unit at Best Buy and see if it does the same thing. Thanks again.
