I recently got an iPod classic (6th generation) and while it works great with Kenwood 8120 but I have some bugs:

a) 50% of the time when I start the car, playback would be "paused" for iPod until I hit play on the HU. Other times it plays automatically after initial bootupb) I can't use the steering wheel to control iPod FF/REW or even source select. Volume up/down is fine. I can control iPod through HU no problem. Other times I can control via steering wheel. I have the PAC controller meant for Kenwood - hard wired.

Also, I believe there's still an issue with saving a custom wallpaper into the HU for boot up? At least it's not saving for next time I power cycle the HU.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you saying that sometimes the steering wheel controls work and sometimes they don't (the same functions on the same source)?

As to everything else, I'm not super familiar with this HU (as I don't have it), but hopefully Doc can chime in next time he's on and help you out.

I have the 8120 also and notice the iPod pause problem also. But my steering wheel controls work for controlling the iPod. There are some other bugs also. My biggest problem is the HD radio not keeping the channel presets.

Regarding the ipod pausing... I believe that that happens after a certain amount of time... say if you turn your car off while the ipod is playing and come back within 2-3 minutes, I believe it picks up playing where it left off... but if you leave the car for 30 minutes or more, it will be paused when you turn the car on again... it seems this is a built in function perhaps to keep the ipod from continuously draiing power from the headunit by being in standby mode... best explaanation I can give you... it happens to me also, I don't think this is a bug

the steering wheel control issue happens to me occasionally also... never with my USB, but it does sometimes with the ipod... if I remove the ipod and put it back in, usually it works... so this is a bug, that may be inherent in the connection of the ipod itself. A few times, I have gotten in the car and it took forever for the headunit to recognize the ipod... a few times, it would give me an incompatible device error... this is also a bug that I've noticed... if I had to guess on these, I would have to say its because of the gen 6, ipod touch, and iphone use different firmward than the older ipods... that's why we can't watch video from our ipod through the adapter, but earlier generations can... I think its all tied together

I have neve even tried the custom wallpaper on boot up before, so i can't help u there

Thank you guys, I can play video fine with my iPod (6th gen). I have the iPod for few weeks now and it never fail to recognize the device during startup so far. Next time when it fails to respond to the steering wheel buttons, I'll try switching to another source and back, see if I can gain control back.

As for the background, I thought it was possible to change the bootup screen to your own. Now at least I'm not alone

Thanks again.

really... you can watch video with your 6th gen ipod? R u sure its not a 5.5 generation? Acordin to most sites, 6th gen, ipodtouch, and iphone video out doesn't work with the aftermarket connections (pioneer, kenwood, etc) for the car. that's a first... good for you my dude, cause I can't watch sh*t with my ipod touch

How can I confirm if mine is 6th gen or 5.5? I'd be more happy if it's 5.5 since I was told 5.5 has better audio than 6th.

If you read here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod_Classic ... it states under hardware issues that generation 6 ipods don't funtion with the TV out... I'm pretty sure you have a generation 5.5 or generation 5 ipod!
