I found a kenetix intake manifold plenum for around 200$ new.. is this a good deal and will it add HP? A noticeable amount? It says may not fit g35 engine cover, but it fits the motor . I think its for a 350z

Which one? Is it the SSV (stainless) or the composite (looks like black plastic)?

Doesn't do much. Better off with the plenum spacer from Motordyne.

What's the difference in them? N if they don't do much then why get one? I just don't understand what they are... Doesn't seem like a normal intake manifold to me...

The Plenum spacer increases the amount of air you can shove into the car...the replacement plenum does not change that. Now if you have an 05-06 6MT, you can get the MREV2 lower plenum from Motordyne. It works by using a AUTO's lower plenum which has a different design and is polished and ported. Very noticeable gains, and even more with a spacer.

Because the reality is, there are parts on the market that (oh noes) don't do much except separate enthusiasts from their money.

The composite manifold is simply a bit larger in internal volume (which is the same thing accomplished by the plenum spacer). Its material supposedly prevents "heat soak" and maintains a cooler incoming air temp, but honestly, it can't do much, considering the OEM plenum is aluminum and doesn't heat up much anyway.

Now, the SSV (stainless steel welded plenum) replaces both upper and lower plenum, and has longer intake runners. I noticed a nice bump in performance after installing this.

NOTE: I had the Motordyne plenum spacer, the Kinetix composite, and the SSV on my G35 at various points.

Ok thanks for the insight... N BTW my oil change just cost me 70$ plus tax at valvoline. With full synthetic ...."vPower" oil... That blows. I use to change my own for $15.99 lol....

No reason not to DIY. Wal-Mart will occasionally have Mobil 1 on sale. Get your filters through one of our sponsors here (there are several with OEm parts) and you'll be right back to $16 oil changes.

edit: 5/16 lol

had a 1/16th spacer on my 2005 g35x... noticable gains in the mid range... very nice engine sound...

Oh and use a Torque Wrench if you install your self to avoid leaks...

you mean 5/16 i believe...

1/16 would be like stacking 3-4 of the stock metal gaskets! :)

I have run the 5/8", 1/2", and now have a 3/8" spacer. There is more useable power from the 5/16 or 3/8" and the 1/2" is really the most you want to go if you are NA. I got more power from the 1/2 than the 5/8

we are talking about intake mods - specifically plenum spacers and the sizes that you can get them in

I will link you to a few:
Motordyne 5/16" plenum spacer
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOTORDYN ... ccessories

Blox 5/8" plenum spacer
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BLOX-INT ... ccessories

There are other various sizes and brands out there

But are they worth the money? And will my engine cover fit still on a 04 coupe

The 5/16 is the best for most people. I wouldn't recommend getting more than the 1/2".

They are independent dyno proven to give you 10-12 rwhp. They are a mod that should definitely be done. Better in every way.

5/16 spacer will fit the cover...the 5/8's will NOT. However, there are ways to make the engine cover fit with the 5/8's spacer....you just need to use some thick washers. But, without other breathing mods (headers, off-road pipes or HFCs and a CAT-Back exhaust) you will have better gains with the 5/16 spacer. Finally, since you have an 04, DO NOT get the MREV2. It's for the 05-06 "REVUP" engines. If you want a few extra HP, then the spacer is worth the money. Complement it with other intake and exhaust mods.
