I've been pretty busy workin' at Nissan lately, but I've decided to keep my beat up CA...

here's what's factored my decision:

no matter who you get your engine from (running car or not) with the kind of mileage and age most CA's are at (over 13 years old!) its gonna be a good bet your CA's not gonna be running at its full potential.

so even if I send this f'd up head and stuff back, what's to say something else won't go wrong...I mean I know of at least 3 catastrophic engine failures that have happened to CA members here on this board. Paul's piston exploded destroying his when he started it. Mine had metal chunks and a f'd head on it. And Ian's motor threw a rod and cracked a piston or whatever happened to it...And we all got engines from 3 different suppliers (both of theirs were from "good" companies)...my point is you never know what you're getting (b/c neither do they!)

with that in mind I've decided to keep my stuff and rebuild it all...EVERYTHING. I'm gonna get a good condition head from Ray, and send it off to a machine shop to be refinished. Get new valve springs. Bore out (or at least rehone) the block and get new/ or bigger pistons. Refinish the crank and get all new bearings, etc...

Maybe save up for a new exhaust manifold, big turbo, and fmic!

So anyways the CA project is on hold (indefinatly :rolleyes) or at least for afew months while I make money working 2 jobs! YEA! hehe

So I though I'd fill you all in on the current situation, and how things stand with my engine.

Take it easy everyone,Sean

P.S. does anyone have any ideas what should be done to prep this stuff for storage? I'm gonna be putting it in a mini-storage facitlity in boxes(the motor is in pieces now) so It'll be humidity and temp protected but is there anything I can seal up or whatever?

But to reply to the main body of your post, unfortunately for you RWD guys, you're going to be taking chances any 'ol way because most newbies to the swap needs all the tid bits that comes with a swap. The FWD/AWD versions are the youngest CA's around with one of my motors having in writing around 53kilometers and it act like it as well (very young and immature/rev happy:D). To whomever buy CA18's, I'd let the importer know that I want to see pictures and see compression test results from each cylinder with the compression tester in the spark plug hole and getting photographed. It might sound extreme, but if they want to sell an engine and want to earn their patrons trust, they got to go that extra mile.

If I sold engines, I would test them all to give my customers some idea as to what they are working with and if anything is bad in the bunch of engines I've imported, I'd be giving that yard that I purchased from a phone call expecting to be compensated in the next bunch.
