Ok here's the problem. My ka24e has about 225,037 miles on it. When i rev it up to around 2500 rpms, (no load) it makes this annoying knocking sound in sync with the rpms. On top of that my clutch bearing squeals, whenever i engage the clutch. I went ot this one place around the corner from my house, were they specialize with nissan called Pegasus Z service. They say that i should swap in a new KA because of the mileage. I would swap in a new ka because most people swap them out for sr's. Should i just replace the motor, or fix all the little problems and keep the motor?

well, first off, you have to realize the differences between the SR and KA, and why people swap for the SR in the first place. Usually, its for power purposes. Also understand, that if you swap for the SR, your car isn't gonna be street legal.

as far as legality issues go, any engine that is available on the USDM market and from the year of your car model or newer is legal. Since the SR20 (rwd) wasn't in any usdm vehicles, it aint legal. Some people choose to gangsta and take that risk (*cough*), and some people just chose to avoid the hassle, and go a different route.

225k is a lot of miles.. my suggestion would be to swap to a newer engine as well.

Thats exacly why i laugh when i here about these sr20's, cause im not risking another encounter with the law over a motor!! I had ka24de on the brain from the start. Plus i read on another thread that ka's have a torque advantage over sr20's!

Of course!! Im not paying a huge amount of money on a sr20, and drive around knowing that i could get caught w/ an illegal engine under my hood. Na i cant have that on my consience.

eh... KA's are a bit torquer... but sr's are built to handle a turbo (reliably!). Plus the aftermarket caters to the SR20, where the KA barely has anything as far as the aftermarket industry goes.

Oh, and also... SR's look prettier, haha.

The list goes on, but lets not make this a thread about the SR20 vs. the KA24... it really gets ugly and repetitive after awhile

but if you can get a good deal on a decent dual cam ka, I say go for it

Yeah thats true about the aftermarket and sr20's. N o beef here with sr20's, na not at all. All i need now is a new engine. Ka happens to be within my price range for now. I already talked to a mechanic from the sr20 store, he's got a few ka lying around. Thanks for tha help though!

yeah, I know a few people that went and got their sr20 swaps done over there. My buddy actually just got his car back from them like 2 weeks ago... I hear nothing but good reviews from that place.
