A local mechanic that has done work on all the family cars came by today to do some work on our 2000 jeep grand cherokee. While he was here, I asked him about the front end constantly having to be aligned on my 2000 Nissan Pathfinder. He told me that It may be the wheel bearing on the front end. So he jacked the front end of the car up and wiggled the wheel back and forth. He said that he is pretty sure that is a good sign that either the tie rod or hub bearing(wheel bearing) needed to be replaced.

Do you guys have any thoughts or tips?

Where is a good place to purchase this?

Factory or aftermarket parts best?

Thanks again everyone!!

If there is play in the wheel (i.e. you can shake it side-to-side parallel with the car), the wheel bearing is loose and its preload may not be set properly, or the wheel bearing itself is starting to fail. Setting the preload correctly can be difficult since finding the tools specified in the factory service manual locally is nearly impossible.

Do you have a 4WD or a 2WD Pathfinder?
