My bro has a '97 J30 in Kansas City. He only had to deal with three snow falls last year, the most at one time was 4 inches. Will he need dedicated snow tires or will a set a of GOOD all-seasons like BFG Traction T/A's get him through a KC winter?

Freakonaleash did you drive last winter with just the all sesons as well? How was the J30 in the snows KC had? My bro just got it and dosn't know how it handles in the snow yet.

I've driven my J30 in the snow.

Keep in mind that ANY RWD front engine vehicle is a mission to drive in the snow. Just make sure he is VERY light on the gas otherwise he will oversteer like a mad man.

How old is your brother? I know the J30s are pretty affordable now for the younger crowd...which makes it even more dangerous. If you don't know how to handle a RWD car in the snow, you are in for a serious treat

i bought it in february, and you know how kansas is, it doesnt really snow that much after january. i drove in about 2" of snow and if you are just light on the gas, it should be fine. just keep in mind not to try and accelerate fast.

Living in chicago with harsh winters, I dont even use snow tires.

I just depend on the plows and salt.

Usually the first day of snow is the most fun to drive. Nice drifting oppotunity.

By the second day all the roads are clear already.

I drove through the mild Mass winter last year, I was all worried about it having only driven AWD in the snow before owning the J30. I slapped on a nice set of all seasons, and took it slow. When we got hit with 4-5", I actually took it out and tested its limits. Crusing speeds, steep hills all no problem if you take it easy on the gas, and you're careful
