anybody running egr with the turbo? is there any way to make it work? i really need to be emissions legal. this would be on a 10-15 psi car. also, is there any other emissions equipment thats usually ditched when going turbo? basically, i need to know what i need to do to pass the sniffer with a KAT. thanks!

Reduce boost to the greatest efficiency of the turbocharger, and get the engine tuned to run ideally for emissions. Slightly lean with moderate timing and a functioning EGR should get you by with a cat. You'll more than likely be fighting NOx numbers and that is the EGR's sole purpose.

I my KA was having trouble passing emissions last year, I went to a local auto parts store and was looking through the fuel treatment products and I found a blue box that sad "grantieed to pass" and it had the tail lights of a 3000Gt or a stealth. I cant remember the name of the stuff though, haha. Well I bought it and it worked real well, it brought my carbon numbers went way down (by like 200 i think), I dont know too much about emissions though. What exactly is NOx? And do you know if that part of testing is possible to pass without the EGR?Also while we are on the topic what is the third pipe running to the exhaust on the s13, its not on the s14. I found this out last summer when I was putting my s14 KA in my s13. Is it some kind of AIV?

I just looked up EGR valves and I found this:If the EGR valve is not flowing, onboard diagnostics (OBD) systems will set a code and the power control module (PCM) will use a backup timing curve that has less advance to prevent engine ping. Less timing advance means less performance and economy.Retarded timing? That actually sounds like a good thing for a turbo set up, haha

maybe this is why my stock ecu is running 16-18 degrees total timing at wot? glad i blocked off my egr then

Structure have you run into any problems with emissions in jersey? cause i think delaware and jersey are about the same difficulty to pass

Personally, I would like to run a KA-T with all emissions equipment (OK, except the stupid AIV) in working order. I know some folks are running a custom turbo on the KA and have kept the EGR with no negative effects.

I have the Greddy kit running and my EGR errors once and a while...

Is there a system that would tell me my current timing at all times?

Did you have to weld the ERG pipe into the DP, or does the Greddy DP have a flange for it ?

i have a KA-T with my egr hooked up... the only thing that i did was not put the tube back on... they only thing the egr does is cool the cilinders down hence(Exhuast Gas Recycler) and i have ecu up grades and bigger injectors .. all i did was put a coverter on and went to emissions test and it past the first time... i also have the second O2 sensor hooked up...after i passed the test went home and put the test pipe back on ...and i run 1 bar of boost in mine i dont think u should have any problems and i constantly monitor my computer in the shop looking for codes and i still have yet to find one with a emmision code.... so far that has worked for me

an mdm techtom plugs right into the nissan consult port in the interior fuse panel. it tells you many things that the ecu is seeing. for timing it will only tell you the map the ecu is running. if you retard it by any means other than an jwt ecu it will show the same result. so if it reads 28 degrees at wot and you retard 10 degrees it will still read 28 degrees whne actually you are running 18. really nice unit jsut a little pricey.
