ok so i have a 92 nissan 240sx ka24det on 8 lb, and been drivin around for over a month with no problems, so today i was drivin down the highway and the transmission locked up i pushed the clutch in and drifted to the side of the highway, everytime i try to move it locks up and makes a loud bang, it still shifts into every gear, and doesnt appear to be leaking, so my question is did it just go out because it has 202,000 miles on it, or because its turboed pushing more power than it was meant for, im considering putting one in with lower miles, is this common for them to break when the ka is turboed on 8 lbs?

You mean slid... You don't 'drift' with your wheels locked. Sounds like you need to get rid of your welded differential.

Drifted, as in coasted while in neutral I assume. I hope your wheels didn't lock up on the highway.

ok first i like my welded rear and drifting so thats not changing, second the problem is the transmission not the rear. and i drifted as in coasted to the side of the road. so like i asked before can thee ka transmission hold the power of 8 lbs of boost or will it keep breaking the transmission, also i have an act clutch if that matters

Usually the clutch goes before anything else does.. theres quite a few people running well over 8lbs of boost on their ka's with the stock transmission .. they only upgrade the clutch n flywheel ect....i believe theres even some that use the ka transmission guts on their sr's n run fine

Ha, so I guessed correctly. You should remove "LSD" from your car description. :squint: Welded diffs if not done correctly will break and lock up without warning and more than likely kill you and injure others if your on the freeway. You should remove it if this is your daily car.

How would you know this?

Well keep your f*cking s*** up welded diff! You won't be going anywhere soon. KA transmission's don't just lock up like that and you would notice if it were doing something wrong.

Ok I appreciate every bodys help but im gettin tired of rude responses on this sight, use some manners and, dont be ignorant, now I agree its possible my resr locked if if a weld slag flew up between the gears but id like,to keep my rear, I like bein able to drift and a dd, im gonna take off the drive shaft tomorrow and see if it spins when I let the clutch out and see if,the rear is locked, so ka trannys are strong now I know, thank you

Strong no, 400 hp capable with no low end torque yes, I dunno it's hard to say what happened. Deffinatly try free spinning that diff, before looking into clutch kits and trans.

ok guys took off the driveshaft and you guys were right its the rear, i can turn the input shaft 1/4 around and it doesnt turn the gear its free, then it catches and locks, so the rear is junk, so im gonna get an open diff for now so i can drive my car, now as for what I wanna do, i wanna drift which requires both tires locked so id like to go with an lsd because I dont wanna wreck my car, now i read up on it and heres my question, which rear is better, the j30, the 300zx, or the lsd 240 rear, now if there the same i was gonna go with the 300zx rear since it bolts right in and doesnt cause driveshaft issues like the j30 rear, but it says you gotta buy new flanges, my question is where you buy them and why cant you use the old ones out of the stock rear and the flanges are the output shafts to each axle right?

They are all VLSD, now you just need to pick the ratio
