AWESOME! I haven't had this much fun with a strategy game since X-Com!

For those who haven't tried it, it's basically a Risk-style global turn based strategy game. The catch here is that it all sort of sits "on top" of normal C&C3 gameplay. That is to say that while you have the global map where you concentrate on base and army development and furthering your side's specific sub-goal (like population increase or bottoming out morale), but battles take place within the normal C&C RTS engine. You can play it with any of the 9 subfactions (there are two new subfactions for each of the 3 returning major factions) which adds a layer of strategy.

I can definitely see Global Conquest games potentially taking a VERY VERY LONG time, since they can theoretically include tens of dozens of standard C&C battles.The good news is you can also opt for what appears to be a simple dice roll battle resolution that seems to work, again, like Risk's battles. This only takes a couple seconds per battle but obviously leaves less room for player strategy to enter into things.One downside I've found to the auto-resolve is that you can occasionally run into groups of incompatible units (for instance air and ground units that can't attack each other) being the last survivors of a battle, which leads to stalemates.

Another really neat aspect is the ability to build your own battle groups. On the global scale, all unit purchases are done as bulk battle groups. Default battle groups range from cheap to expensive and give you a few choices of make-up. The ability to design your own battlegroups (only from the game's main menu, outside the actual game) adds a lot of potential depth, especially when you combine it with the subfaction's different strengths.

Alternatively units built in the RTS setting that survive to the end of battle carry back over to the global setting.

The actual story campaign is a lot of fun, as well. It's very cool to go back to the Firestorm era again.

hah, if only i had the mental capacity to make it past the first level in C&C i might look into this.. but most of the time i am teh failz at rts games...
