1990 S13 240 w/ a KA24E

When the engine is set to top center which direction is the oil pump spindle pointed? (| , (\ , (/ , |) ? I was reading earlier that the rotary button should point to the #1 plug wire at top dead center and the direction of rotation is CCW 1-3-4-2. Which direction is the half moon supposed to sit? With all of the above true my base timing should be set enough to run and check w/ my timing light w/ the TPS disconnected.

Thanks in advance for all assistance.

key ways on the cam and crank point upyour oil pump points \ with the longer section of the shaft (since there's a half circle cut off the otherwise cylindrical shaft) pointing towards the front of the enginedistributor's rotor pointing down around 4 o'clock

You need to find Top Dead Center (TDC) for the COMPRESSION STROKE in order to time the ignition distributor. The end of the shaft will look like a "D", when looking into the distributor hole while standing at the drivers side front wheel well. Actually, it (the "D") will be more of a "11:45" position, NOT quite "12:00"; if not, then remove, and reinstall until the above position is obtained.

Thanks, I will try this on my next off day. My repair manual is not very clear on this. I have replaced the timing chain and tensioners on three engines now and never had this trouble. I replaced the headgasket and intake gaskets on this one and had the engine disassembled for several weeks. Before the teardown and rebuild was all in the same day.

Thanks again. - John
