kae start up issues

i rebuilt my sohc a couple months ago and it has about 3k miles on it, and runs great, the only thing is sometimes when i start it when its warm, it will go up to 2k then 1k then 2k then 1k ect.. for a couple of seconds... anyone know the cause of this? also it start up kind of rough sometimes when its warm too, not usually though

always starts right up in the mornings

i would check plug gap and timing

sounds like distributor or timing
