yeah, i must agree it really does sound like an ignition problem, but they sometimes can be hard to diagnose.
if you know you have a broken plug wire, shell out the couple of bucks to replace it. and thats only if the problem really isnt in your distributor cap.
the tps sensor has three or four prongs coming out of it when you unplug it. its located on the right side of the throttle body. it looks like a little black box.
get a multi-meter, and first you measure the resistance across two of the terminals. one set of terminals will give you max resistance when the tb is closed and then min voltage when its open. another set of prongs will do just the opposite. and two more prongs are used to test the voltage across these terminals at the same to throttle positions.
