this was brought to my attention yesterday, and its really been irking me since.

if you look at the block, and the underside of the head, there are coolant jackets around every cylinder. but the headgaskets made for the motor, and multiple other nissan motors, only have passages through the head gasket for the #4 cylinder

why arent there holes in the head gasket for the coolant to go through around each cylinder?

Ahh, your an astute one!..your correct there is limited flow intentionally...if you look at the intake for the top hose you will notice it dump's at midpoint to #1 cylinder...then the water/coolant flows to the back of the head..down those holes..then back upfront to the outlet for the lower hose...thats the way its intended to work..

Now...i did try to modify a full copper gasket to allow more flow only to realize it creats cavitation and leaves a hot area at the back of the block..

i hope this explains it a bit more for ya man..if ya have any more questions on it..post back again.

ahhhh, that makes sense sort of.

still confusing why they would have like, full openings at the mating surfaces of the block and head if theyre "closed" by the HG after install...

its becouse the basic block desighn hasent changed in agest from the 85's to the mid 90's-ish..they all kinda use the same water jacket set up.
