Hell yeah, my hometown Grand Rapids!

Since you have two engines to pilfer exhaust cams from, you might want to experiment with swapping them aound - here is more of what I mean:

This is just scratching the surface of knowledge, spend lots of time reading here, there's lots of good stuff to know.

Well the good thing is you have a spare engine. Now being broke is not so much a factor as A) having a decent workspace and B) having a good working car to begin with.

Assuming those 2 things can be met, you are in pretty good shape if you have at least a little cash, tools and some general mechanical knowledge. You will save some money on machining assuming the spare block was also in good running order. A proper dissassembly and good cleaning will be a great place to start. The bores should need little more than a hone, the bearing journals should only need some polishing and the factory bearings and rings be replaced. At this point you can decide how much more money you want to throw at the engine. A new gasket set from Felpro will set you back a little over $100, new water pump, hoses and a rebuilding of the head will set you back a little over $200 more on top of that. So realistically for about $500 you can have a fresh, reliable (depending on the rebuild itself) engine that will last you for thousands of miles and years to come. Plus you will have the added benefit of always having a second engine on standby.
