My car will start to overheat when im driving it, it wont overheat at idle though. The top hose is hot and lower hose is cold, leading me to believe the tstat is not opening.

-I replaced the tstat it still was overheating.-I just replaced the water pump and it is still overheating.

anyone got any ideas?

I have been searching for days I havn't really found anything related to my problem.

I think tomorrow ill pull the tstat again and run without it and see if it overheats sand if any coolant flows through the lower hose.

What brand thermostat did you put in it?

Non-OEM, however I don't think it matters because i tested it and the old one earlier and they both opened up in a pot of boiling water.

So for whatever reason the tstat is not opening when its installed in the car and yes it is installed correctly.

Okay, if it was Stant, throw it in the garbage and go and buy an OEM one. OEM Nissan thermo, or Nismo, nothing else. Stants are notorious for being bad on KAs. Not to mention that OEM thermos are BEEFY.

I don't think the tstat is the problem they both open, but not in the car. I will order a OEM Nissan one though just to try.

aftermarket ones can eat my balls.

Nissan OEM FTW.

i had the SAME issues repeatedly and i couldnt figure out why... aftermarket thermos for KA's are 1/8" too long and are of far inferior construction.

mine was $27 from the local stealership, but i consider it one of the best parts ive paid for, yet.

get an oem one, your problem will disappear.

Yeah ill try it. I still don't see why it would be the problem if both the new and old tstat open up and the old one was working fine then just stopped working so i really don't think its the thermostat.

Another problem with mrgreeneyes car was that the head gasket was starting to go. Pour some Bar's Leak in it.

i had the same problem,

long story short if its puking the coolant out of the resevoir and the top hose is hot and bottom is cold you prolly have air in the system...

i bled the system 4 time all diff ways and got piss and drilled the tstat out

clip the jiggle valve off and install it with the hole at the top and you will bleed the air out of the system lickety split....

i drilled my tstat and then lifted the driver side front up way in the air so the upper hose was lower than the cap.

open the bleeder valve fill the radiator, and then turn the car on and the level should drop, fill the rest of the way. then run the car up to about 3500 rpm for like a minute or two with the cap open to bleed the air. replace the bleeder when solid water comes out of it and top off the radiator and your good
