wasup guys yea im new to the s13 world, just sold my ae86, before that had an mr2.

so i just picked up the s13 to see whats all the fuss is about on the car. and you know what i think i like it .:D

one question the guy i baught the car from said he has a kaaz 1.5 way lsd. and i hear from some people that it makes a slight crackle noise on slow tight turns. i will about to open it up this week and check if anything is wrong with it. people say thats how kaaz lsd sound like others say no. any clues? and if my lsd is f***ed up is it just cheaper to get a welded dif? help yo?

btw heres a lil pick of my old corolla [IMG][/IMG]

yea iv heard that the kaaz does sound like that but heard that about the 2 way ikd about the 1.5 but im sure it will make a noise like that too... give some pick of the s13...and if the diff rides good and locks in good then i wouldnt upen it but that just IMO. change the fluid in it...

I would imagine that it's supposed to do that... but isn't it just important that it locks up and works? I have a welded diff in my s14 and it chirps at the wheels on slow tight turns. Congrats on ur 240sx.

yea totally. i have alot of pics of my ae86 build up and mr2 build up. i just baught me s13 "hatch" yes i do love hatches more than coupes. but the coupe does look f***ing sick with them silvia fronts hathces need dem pop ups. my opinion though.

no pics of the s13 yet i need to find my camera. only had the s13 for about 1 week. and i cant complain. but im guessing ill still try to open it up. and if i do, i hear you need to use kaaz gear oil correct? i dont want to open it up and dump in regular gear oil. any clues on that?

let me know if anyone would like me to post up pics of my old babys

yea kaaz 2 ways and imm assuming its the same with 1.5 way, will make a clunking noise during slow turns. dont remember why. but it just does that. im sure someone on here has a little more insight on the situation..

ae's are such a pain ill tell you that. parts are almost imposibly to find. and the diff, omg took me 1 week to fix all the bearings seals and lsd on that thing. and its very very expensive looking at over $800+ to rebuild a rear end with seals n lsd. it really is an arm and a leg.

but on the hand it is a cool car to drive in the streets a real big a teaser. but very crappy handling for a daily use.

hah Dont let takumi hear you talk about her that way, he handled his animated version very well. Ive never been in a corolla but i can vouch that the handling on my 240 (with crappy eibach sportlines/kyb's) is very nice, when im screwing around on the back roads sharp curves my friends' non-240's can't keep up. One of the other members on here just put 285's on his s14 and said it handles better than his evo, which sounds like a slight exaggeration, but still. They handle well. I just bought a kaaz 2 way lsd and havent tossed it in yet, but ive heard about the noise, i think it is normal. It did come with kaaz gear oil though, i think i read somewhere to put some good fluid in it for the break in period and then after break-in redrain the fluid and put in the kaaz gear oil, so maybe it likes kaaz best idk, but you should be able to pick some up online for cheap. Well it depends when it makes noise and what kind of clunk, but....

The 1.5 should only engage on acceleration...

So if the clunking is engaging on decceleration or just random times, you need to see whats going on inside... Its hard to tell when you just say clunking, locking diffs can make a lot of noises, some normal, some not.

Who knows the abuse it could have gone through. Also no matter what, I'd change the fluid anyway...

you shold hear a slight clunk on the 1.5 way, its still a clutch type lsd. try changing the fluid with the kaaz fluid, or go with the motul lsd oil. you sholnd't hear much after that, if anything at all.

well it only makes a chucklin noise when i take tight slow turns while its accelerating but not when i hold the clutch in. anyoneknows where i can order kaaz oil? and is their dif types?

thanks for the reply yall.

one more questions. tire sizes?

im running 17's 245/40/17. and 255's in the rear.5zigens.

im wondering if i drop the tire size to 215's? and 35's would i get them wheels to tuck in nice.? anyone got pics of their 240s with tucked wheels?

thats the first thing i did when i got my coupe, gat a kaaz 1.5 lsd. it was like $900 so i had it professionally installed, cost me $300 for install. a lot of money, but wana get it right without damaging the precious. brand new that sh*t was so loud. around every corner. but i hardly hear it any more. you can only use kaaz diff oil. you should be able to get it at frspot

Kaaz requires 80W/90 GL-5 i bought some super tech from wally world when i broke mine in an put the kaaz fluid in after break in . side by side there is no diff in the look smell or consistency of the oils . And you need to change it every 5,000 miles any way so i see no huge diff in the super tech compared to the kaaz other than the 40 dollar price tag for the kaaz and the 12 dollar price tag for a gallon of the super tech .jmo . and mine chatters its normal go do some figure 8'S slowly and itl go away for a while and thn come back . now the new q requirs no break in and is quiet . wish i would have bought it .GL

i have a 2 way from kaaz in my car and it is a clunker the sound you hear is normal and i suggest you use a friction modifier with your fluid change i use regular gear oil and mopar(dodge chrysler) friction modifier. one thing i have to say is that the diff requires frequent fluid changes i change mine every other oil change

you guys want to know a funny story about that car. =/

reasons i sold it was because i was in serious dept during that time, and economy is going bad so might as well get the money for it while its still up. when i sold the car the most heart break iv had.

but i sold it also because i needed a daily driver. the car was completely gutted and soo much road noise. soo damn stiff. and it was cold since i live in the fog. and i have to travel 25 miles in the city through traffic to get to work. so i needed something i can drive everyday.

well here is the funny story about the car. the guy who baught it put on a carbon fiber hood and the big gt wing.

when i saw the hood without pins when he came by my house. i told him "hope you have hood pins for that" =(.

2 months came around i baught my s13 which was just almost last month well i called the guy who baught my trueno i asked him if i can grab my crome shift nob from the car he tells me " Your too late man i just sold the car yesterday!"

i said WTF!. how much.he says " 3500". why soo cheap.

(here is the funny part of the story)the guy tells me "remember what you told my about the hood pins, i never got them. well i took the car to l.a twice it made it like a champ with that engine you built but on the second way up i was going 70 and the hood poped up and smashed my roof, and windshield."

LOL! classic carbon fiber...
