I am trying to install this on my own and have some little

doubt that i will do something wrong

i have seen several write up and they had all warned about how to be real careful to align the gear ring and teeth balanced and too much free play

i am not a really a mech guy, just tired of the shop labor which is like 500 bones

so has anyone done this before? or any other recommendation?

i have a s14 and its open diff

so any feedback would be nice

thanx

I'm sure everything should be covered in those write ups that are floating around the net and on nicoclub.

Only thing is, take your time and air tools will help.

I just got done putting a kaaz in my car. It drives like a totally different car now. I used this write up

http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=217546

It had lots of good info on it I basically followed it exactally like it said and no problems. (knock on wood)

I have driven about 100 miles on it after break in. It is a noisy at slow speeds when turning like parking lot driving or turning after stop signs and red lights. Good luck

Technically you have to adjust pinion depth, preload from the side, as well as placing the ring gear propperly side to side.....

Unfortunately its all done with shims, and you don't have the tools and parts...You can buy shims....but it seem you have to have a special feeler gauge to know what size to order.

you should be able to track down a copy of the FSM on the internet, if not shoot me an email

On the helical that I did I just re-used the old shims in the same places and backlash was the same as before....While its just a guess we were kinda figuring that the OEM diffs can be produced to a tight enough spec that variances aren't that big relative to whats allowable...Meaning the shims are for the most part there to compensate for differences in the large cast diff case. From the few who have just tried it and checked afterwards as long as the stock shims were used in the same place it was fine....

I dont know if an aftermarket would be to the same spec, and I wouldn't throw it all back together without checking.
