KA24sohc transmission problems

Okay I just traded my Sr20det 200sx for the 92 S13. I was under the impression that the S13 worked with no mechanical problems, and now have come to realize that I cannot get the transmission into Drive? It goes into Reverse no problem. But doesn't "click" into D, 2 or 1 gears. Can anyone elaboate on what my problem might be. The previous owner said there was no problems, they even brought it to me on a tow dolly which they drove up onto, so I'm wondering if something may have knocked loose.? This is first rear wheel driven car, so I'm a lil' new to these types of applications: sorry 4 being so wordy, just want to be clear. Thanks any help would be much appreciated.

looks like your in the wnrg place, and you might want to look at the linkage (where the shifter cable attached to the side of the transmition)if the trans were bad you would have at least first as they tend to use the same band , kinda sounds like the shifter cable is loose or binding
