Is your chain on correctly?

If I remember correctly, there is a yellow link in the timing chain, and that must be sitting on a certain tooth on the camshaft gear.

no mine has two black links.... So isn't one lining up with the cam and the other one lining up with the crank?

I just changed mine also. I have had all kinds of headaches since I did the swap. Sounds like you have the distributer out of time. Not to big of a deal. get TDC set. pull your distributor look at hot far off it is from #1. Pull your oil pump, make sure you have you oil drain pan out to catch the little bit of oit that will fall and drop the drive gear/shaft. when you re install the shaft gear you need to make sure that the half circle cut out is vertical with the cut away half is facing the front of the motor. You will have to twist it a llittle to get it in. the oil pump side of the shaft will be vertical aswell. Bolt it back up and make sure the rotor button point to #1. have fun. If isn't to hard to change.Kegger
