Hello, i just got a free 95 neon in great shape today, so i plan on driving that around for a while and parkin my 1990 240 and restoring and tuning it. I have looked into the sr20's but i have heard that a turbo KA produces much more HP and torque. First question, roughly of course, a turbo KA creates how much HP and torque and 2nd question, where can i get a turbo kit for the ka, or how can i custom install a turbo :) Thanks

I'll go with an SR20det i like the power curve and has 7600RPM.We'll KA24 is good to if u want TQ but no power on high rpm redline 6500RPM. Power and Torque depend on what kind of turbo setup u have and turbo size and boost .Greddy and FMAX turbo is all i know.:)

I have looked into turbo charging my '90. And I plan on custom building the manifolds or having an accredited welder weld them to my design. A whole lot cheaper than buying a 'flashy' kit for about $2K - $3K.... I believe I can turbo the KA for 1500 to 2000 and have the power that I am planning: in between 250 rwhp and 300 rwhp the TQ would probably be close if not higher than that. Though I haven't looked as much into the TQ numbers...

As far as the power curve of the KA, Silviapower has a point.A stock KA's power band is from about 3000 RPM to about 5500 RPM. But if you get a different camshaft put in and maybe an adjustable sprocket, you could probably extend it to around 6000 RPM.

The only problem I have with the SR's is that they don't have the low end power the KA has. You can put different gears in to compensate but beside that it lacks the TQ... An SR from my knowledge needs to be up above 3000 RPM to have any real power (not sure about that though so sorry if I am wrong with that statement)

And depending on the turbo that is used you could have a KA really kick from about 2000 RPM or 2500 RPM and up to near 6000 RPM with good efficiency...

JUST MY 2 CENTS....

the sr20 is 2.0 the ka24 is 2.4 this means in the long run the ka can make more power.I say go ka.

I believe the ka24de makes more hp than a sr20de.And i'm not sure but I think if you put equal turbos on them the ka will make more power.

This company seems to make good KA turbo kits http://www.import-autoperformance.com/

They also have some comparisons between KAT and SR prices and horse power gains. It's geared to market there turbo kit, but still informaitive.

If I ever have the money, I would like to get the stage one kit.

I agree with Arrow about the 2 engines the KA and SR are different. The only why i prefer the SP is its power curve. I have a friend with 431Whp SR power S13 240sx and its like a race car. Just to say my cousin is going the KA route now his 180sx has 353 whp on it. I got stiff neck driving that thing, if u like ur head get thrown backward to the seat all the time then KA turbo is the way to go:). heheheh.......I concluded for me:SR with ball bearing turbo that start to make power at low RPM is the way to go. I like the power curve its the best:) i like it.

This is my opinion don't quote me for it:)

I'm not sure but i'm guessing it would be easier to pass a ka-t than a sr-t. we have better acess to the smog stuff that came on the car.correct me if I'm wrong.

I'll be the 1st to say it before someone else does......SEARCHThis issue has been beat to death before guys, search for KA vs. SR, SR vs. KA and the likes. Either engine is good and can produce good numbers being stock, like 400+ hp.

Its all about whos smoging ur car if u know the guy he'll smog it for free if u don't they go for $150 to $250 under the table but u have to find a smog center who will do that.

For ur car tho a 1990 240sx it would be easy cuz of its OBD1 emission control piece of cake the only u need is to get a smog guy to pretend he didn't see the turbo. hehehehe :)

Ur car will passed tho no problem as long u lower that boost to 6 to 8 psi. I know for sure cuz my friend has a stock SR on his 91 240sx and is cleaner that my 98 240sx stock to the bone KA24de no bolt -on or anything. :icesangel
