have a trans with unsubstantiated 120k+ showed no major shavings on the magnetic plug when it was serviced, has a new clutch, and seems to shift smoothly. is there a more scientific method to determine its condition.i just started driving 5spd so its hard to gauge. How long can these trans go for?

also how long do the 240sx axles typically last if the boots arent torn?

how about the differential?

properly maintained they could last the life of the car. Thats as simple as it could get. Scientific method?? yea you could tear down the trans and diff break out the feeler gauges and check your clearences, you could visually inspect the gears for chips or a wear pattern. but if you dont have metal or very minimal metal on your magnet it indicates not much wear has taken place since your last fluid service. It would be pointless to go in and physically check it if you know it hasent worn much at all. The easiest way to tell if you have a wear problem is the metal on the magnet and noise.
