what parts from the KA24E single cam crap are compatiable with the CA18DET??

like i want to use the KA transmission, ect, and i looked at the SR guide, and is the wiring really that simple?

and just to verify i CAN use the SR downpipe? i CAN use the KA24DE tach? i CAN use the stock KA mounts?, i CAN use the KA rad, but need an electric fan and the DOHC power steering MUST be used, whereas the SOHC lines wont work

Yes, the wiring is that simple.

Your throttle body will fit if you flip it upside down (coolant ports up) and remove the coolant ports. It's a IIRC ~6mm increase (I run one myself).

KA transmission will work, but no real benefit save for the taller 5th gear. Better highway gas mileage. Just use the CA bellhousing.

Yes, you can use the SR downpipe if you use a SR turbo outlet as well. Yep. KA24DE tach will work as it uses the same speed sensor signal.

KA mounts will work if you HAVE to, but I would just fill the CA mounts with polyurethane (do a search, someone did a how to on it).

KA rad is the one you want, as the SR has ports on both sides, and the CA/KA have the inlet and outlet on the same side.

You pretty much have it all right man! Now get to swapping!

WOOT NO MORE n00B STATUS!!

so cut the CA harness and cut the ka harness at the ECM and match the wires colors according to the

http://srownersclub.com/faq/index.asp

ive also read that its just a matter of making a knock sensor wire into a certain pin on th ECM,

there both simple enough, which one do i do? lol

oh another question..

i just want to have EVERYTHING before i swap. if i use the CA transmission, do i need the CA driveshaft?

and the Ebay CA intercooler piping kits will work, but do i ABSOLUTLEY need to recirc my BOV, cuz i want a Greddy RFL

and do i absolutley HAVE to run the KA tb? or is it just a performance gain?

when getting an ebay iC kit, be sure it's for AN S14. I had bought one for the "CA" and it was for an s13 SR. You don't need to run the ka24e TB. The BOV must be recirculating if you don't want any problems.

The whole recirc, don't recirc bov thing is hit and miss. Some cars don't have a problem with it, some do. I have been running my ca without recirc on my bov since I got it... and many thousand miles later still no problems. So I would say give it a try and see how it works out in your case. The debate will go both ways on here - so just go for it!

im confused at that part

if your CA harness isnt cut and you have a CA ecu than dont cut it, alot of plugs in its just theirs little tiny things like O2 sensor etc that need extending and converting.

the KA cluster is seperate from the ECU, the cluster plugs into the main harness. Thats why when people go Standalone they still retain function of the cluster even speedo, gas, etc etc except for TACH.

You need to use the ca harness, AND ca ecu... you don't keep any of the kae engine electronics.

this swap sounds easier then a 2.2 > 3.1 L cavalier swap

can anyone see anything im missing, im going to order the motorset soon, and i would like to do this swap the week of march 9th. but i want to be sure i have 100% of everthing!

The KA driveshaft will work, but you've got to take the dustsheild off of the CA trans as the KA has got that stupid rubber dampener.

The TB is just a performance gain.

If you're going to replace the bearings, I'd replace the rings as well.

and if you'd like to still have a dust shield on the trans then i'm pretty sure you can take the dust shield off the KA trans and put it in place of the old dust shield on the CA trans.

Exactly like the sr. except the knock sensor wire.

Use the lower CA trans harness. Find a 2 prong plug off the ka engine/transmission harness that fits the knock sensor plug off the CA lower harness and extend the knock sensor wire off the CA engine harness so it will plug up with the knock sensor wire off the CA lower engine harness.

For the CA. the knock sensor is routed through the lower harness then briefly into the main harness then to the engine harness.

If you don't want to use the CA lower harness, you can splice the plug off the ca lower harness and make it long enough to reach the ca engine harness.

The white plug that comes off the ECU side of the engine harness has 2 black wires and the KA harness has only one. I didn't bother with those wires since they just go to the check connector.
