im new to the forum and i figured i would share this story with you.

my 1990 d21 has been making a horrid noise on every start up and while driving coming from the what sounded like the timing chain. i removed the valve cover to inspect it and found the slack guide was completely missing. i immediately ordered a new chain set. 2 months and about 4k miles later i decide the noise im hearing is getting worse and worse so i decide today is a good day to finally fix my truck. removed the oil pan..... the slack guide was in like 50 pieces jingling around inside the pan so i loled and moved on to removing the front engine cover, as im removing the cover i hear something fall to the ground.... what fell to the ground was the timing chain tensioner guide, guide bolt, and tensioner pin and spring. i had just driven this truck over 100mph on the highway this morning. LOL looks as if the bolt backed out and is now rounded off so i cant use it. good old nissan dealer wont have one till 10am tomorrow. stuck waiting on a $4 part.

That's why it's best to fix once the noise is heard.
Make sure the chain didn't wear thru the back of the timing cover.
If it did, coolant will enter the oiling system.

everything went well. starting the truck without the sound or marbles in my engine is such a wonderful thing.
