Which are the most vital?

I recently changed my valve cover gasket and when I had my valve cover off I took a look at my chain guides since my chain rattles. I assumed it would be the top guide (common problem), but when I looked I noticed I had ABSOLUTELY no top guide remaining and my slack side guide was busted to hell (flapping around) so I assume that is what caused the rattling.

ANYWAY, is it alright for my car to be running no slack side guide? It's a pretty safe bet to say my timing is gone to hell anyway. And how hard is it to fix/replace these?

I have been running my car daily with the slack side guide like this... so removing it would not make a difference in my opinion.

Just need some input.

Theres a top guide??? I only see two side ones on mine.. The guide one and the Tensioner guide one.. I have a rattle in mine if its been idle for a while.. cuz i have a leak around the seal for my tensioner so i ran a thicker oil and Lucas Stabilizer and it stopped the rattle.. bout it being bad.. YES IT IS BAD!! get it fixed ASAP... IF not.. you dont' want to become another victim of the fatal timing chain death. Use the serach button and you will see what i'm talkin bout.. If your mechanicaly inclined you can do it your self.. lil time consuming but saves you lots of money...

you always want to change everything while you have it apart.. also.. you don't want to run old chain on new guides.. or anything old on something new... Whats the point then of chaning just one thing LoL
