Okay so I bought a Sileighty a month or so ago with a KA24E with 105K original miles and its always had a little put-put sound from what I was told was the EGR tube. It always goes away when the engine is warmed up so I drive the car like a grandma until its gone.Today I did the same and when the put-put was gone I noticed a terrible tick tick tick tick tick tick tick. I noticed the sound even at highway speeds so I pulled over and popped the hood. It was pretty loud and it was constant.

I said phuck it. I turned around and went home and when I got it back on the highway the sound was gone. I pulled over again and popped the hood. No more tick tick tick tick tick. WTF?

I dont know what caused that sound or why it came and went. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like its your lifters! Could be worn out or loose! Might want to get those checked.. it could be also your pistons knocking against the head..but i doubt that could be it! (that would be a knocking sound) lol Just take off the valve cover and check the gap between the lifters with a feeler gauge according to specs if u have one, make sure u get the right specs too. I had the same problem with my KA! (my problem was i needed new lifters period so... Hope this helped a little! ............mite wanna check dis out too>>> http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=161689

I added oil and solved the tick..

NEW PROBLEM NOW!

I drove the car to work and it seemed all better. I let it sit 5 hours and got back in it and it wouldnt start. Period. It made one click sound and that was it. Then my deck spat out my CD that was in there. One click again, nothing.

I push start it and that was a chore. Then I let it warm up and drive home. All the while thinking of what it could be.

I pull into my driveway and on the downward slope I turn off the car to see if it will start on its own after getting charged from the alternator. No. Nothing. ----. Then it wont compression start.

What is going on? I guess I can try a different battery in the morning but ****...Maybe my alternator was the tick tick and now its fried and wont charge my battery?

if you try to turn it on again in the morning. is your light going on when you open the door? if not, check your battery terminals. could be corroded on the inside. if it still doesn't work, then yea maybe its the alternator. does your engine look like its leaking oil anywhere? you ran out of oil, so you could have a leak which in turn dirtied up you alt. why do i say that? cause it happened to mine. so, i not only bought a new alternator, i got a head valve gasket, and used acetone on the inside of the terminals. don't let the acetone touch anything rubber or plastic. bad acetone. hope that helps

My dome light works and so does the beep telling me my door is open.

Im gonna toss in a battery I know is good in the morning and see for sure.

I cant tell if it leaked oil since I park on gravel/grass and have no pavement to park on. Ill check around for leaks too though.

Thanks man...

lol dude i had the same problem to! Happened me a couple times for not paying close attention 2 details lol Could be a couple things first check your battery terminals for corrosion like dude up there said, 2nd might want to check your alternator and starter terminals/connection for loose wires, if the bolts aren't on there tight enough guess what no good connection, resulting in poor ignition or just clicking (starter clicking) 3rd Hope u dont have buy a New BATT/ALT/STARTER
