OK I bought my 240 a couple years ago and it ran strong. Every once in a while it would "hiccup" on the highway and the shifter would shake, but it was otherwise completely healthy.I've been driving it hard for a while, and it started acting like it was misfiring. I changed the plugs and wires, dist. cap and rotor, ignition coil, o2 sensor, and fuel pump (all over time as they started to crap out) but nothing has changed my problem and it seems to get worse and worse. Every once in a while the motor runs fine but this is very rarely. It reaches a rough spot around 3k RPM up to 5K RPM and just stutters like someone has cut off the fuel. At first it would change or get better if I advanced the timing but now it doesn't respond to timing changes anymore.

No one seems to know whats wrong and I'm planning on swapping eventually, but I'd like to fix this for now. I have ran fuel injector cleaner and tried running different octanes too, but nothing helps.

I personally think it may be the fuel pressure regulator or a bad injector...what do you guys think???

Yeah it was the first thing to get changed. Need to upgrade to a 300zx TT one soon because I upgraded the fuel pump to a walbro 255.

You might try the fuel injectors. I replaced mine in my Stanza, it has the same engine, and they only cost $39 each at http://www.DirectAuto.com. They made it run better, and they weren't hard to replace.

I'm don't have any personal experience with this, but it seems reasonable to me that fuel injectors that are shot might start to malfunction at higher RPMs.

baffle in the tank? would this be somethign I could check via the inspection cover? I guess if that was the case the remedy would be a new tank.I looked around in the tank while I was changing the fuel pump and everything seemed to be OK, especially the well where the pump picks up from (I thought it might be something like that so I double checked). I think I am going to try to get some used fuel injectors from a car that I know ran well and try them out to check if that is my problem. I'm also thinking it could be fuel pressure but don't have a FP meter/gauge.

this has all been changed out over the course of several years, as most of those parts wore out on their own merit (or lack thereof). If I was interested in paying 70 dollars (or had that much to pay) I'd just take it to a mechanic.FSM's are useful for fixing things but not quite so useful as a diagnostic tool. an FSM can't tell me what the hell is wrong with my engine, nor can an FSM read me my fuel pressure. At the present point I have no problem fixing things, only problems diagnosing the problem.
