well here is where the problem first started, my throttle resonse wasnt always there... so i checked my tps and the wires were al jimmy rigged from the guy before me and i wigged them around and my response was back. so i decided to rewire the stuff he did. and i calibrated the tps after that and it seemed to work fine but maybe with a little bog. i also cleaned out the iacv because i had a really stumbly idle. and it seemed to fix it and my idle was good again. everything seemed to be fine, went to an event. and about a week after that it seemed to be running a little rich, so i checked my timing and changed my coolant temp sensor and my o2 sensor. well my car is running REALLY rich now... i can smel the gas at stoplights. and my car is super boggy when on the gas. it seems like it is just dumping gas but its not doing anything. and when im at a stoplight it idles normally at around 750 but after a minute or so my rpms start bobbing up and down itll go to 900 then drop to 400 and it just keeps doing it until i start going again. not really sure what the problem is but its costing me a fotune in gas money.... and i have really crappy throttle response. please help you guys, thanks

I had this problem on my KA24DE and it turned out that the guy who assembled the engine had the intake cam rotated by over 8 degrees and this gave results identical to what you described, with the additional symptom that it would act like it hit the rev limiter at 5k rpm.

Check the cam angles at TDC.

i dont know if this matters but u used the Bosch universal o2 sensor.

anyway, i grabbed my injectors from my old car and got new o rings for them and put them in, my car seems to be running a little better but there is still a little bit of bog and i still smell the gas and the idle is still crap. well thanks guys let me know any other ideas

same problem here......seems to be quite common for the KA24DE huh?? ive changed or done evrything evryone has stated....and nothin new.

only diff ive noticed is, mine acts up while its driving. as in....exhaust tone sounds like this while driving at any steady speed.......brrrrrnnn brrrnt brrrnt brnnn brrrnnnt burrrrnnnnn etc.......

i know that a horrible explanation-but it skips like that and you can feel it.instead of bein a bbbbrrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnn, its poppin like that. latly even been backfiring at stop lights. and any time i get on it real hard-when its coming down....POP!!! funny s*** but i dont like it that much. what can go bad frm running rich??

i've got the same issue, but i think mine is due to a missing vacuum hose...or at least after reading all that, i hope to god its just a vacuum hose. I'll update when i start working on it.

your in the wrong ballpark for this one guys.......this is a air/fuel issue....

lets start by eliminating the fuel injectors all together...unbolt the rail from the intake manifold...disconnect the coil wire(for safty)...have a buddy turn the key to the on position..not cranking it..just on so the fuel pump primes...look at the base of the injectors..if there is a fuel leak..o rings are bad..replace...now step 2 of this test.....have your buddy crank the car over...are the injectors spraying?....if they are..you just eliminated the injectors.....lets move on!

O2 sensor....just replace this anyways..there 15 bucks and need to be replaced anyways every 30k..

last but not least...test your maf!..and make shure your maf's electrical plug has a really good connection...you will have to follow the factory service manuals test procedure for this..there are many links to the FSM on nicco..good luck

ok look today i took the car on a long drive and high rpm it boggs down to 3k then its kool but if i down shift sometimes itll red line then wen i go from lets say 3rd and shift alil above 5k then 4th and i get to 5k and nada my foot all the way to the floor and nada like if i turnd my car off on the highway then as my foot is still down the tach neddle is @ 3k and car responds again then 5th and usaully in 5th im doing 65-70ish mph@ 3k RPM wats my issue then? VSS? EGR?

test you MAF first....they do fail and can couse this issue....there is another few sensors that would allso couse this..and they can be bypassed..and those are the 4th and 5th gear sensores that tell the ecu to limit fuel at certian rpms..its like a govoner system for the 5speed...you will have to use niccos search button to find the procedure for the bypass..as i have not done this...i do know you can bypass it with one of two ways..ither swapping in a automatic ecu..or by clipping certian wires..good luck

dont want to throw off the topic, but i myself have a Ka24e, I've got a bouncy idle(never stalls) and i'm running 600-700km on a tank (50L capacity) . wondering if thats normal fuel eating, and what should i check for the funny idle?

I had the same symptoms. 1997 KA with 148k. New (not rebuilt) MAF did the trick. Purrs like a kitten at idle and my power and mileage is back.
