Right now im thinking that it might be an ignition problem, i.e. your coil. I had this problem once. It would run everything seems as if its going great, doors are still open, hood is open cause im doing an inspection of the car before taking it off man who cant take care of it. As I set around the door and o the fender of the 89 240 (that also needs help at this time), it quits, just shuts off like someone was in the driver seat and turns the car off. I change the coil AFTER I made sure that there was fuel getting to the engine, and that the spark from the coil was good (whitish-blue). Then and only after then, I made those checks and found that the coil was faulty and soon reaplaced it. BUT you seem to say that yours dies when you hit the gas? Check the throttle and make sure that it operates normally. Have a second person watch the throttle plate as you step on the gas with the car off, then again with the car on. If it operates maybe the thottle position (TP) sensor is faulty and is telling the computer that the plate is in X position and it really isnt. SO, have those two things checked out, 1) coil 2) TPS
