hello all , ive been reading these forums for a while now and i just signed up, dont mind the username, its the same name i have on all forums...

so maybe im completely missing this but im looking for a nice write up on engine removal and install.

also i was wondering what else you would need to make the ca18det work in my car(90 240sx se 5spd) ive heard from ppl that you have you use a 91-94 cluster?

PLLLLLEASE let me know of anything i need to know regarding the swap or if you know of any links to write ups.

my story is i bought a pretty nice 240sx for a decent price and the transmission went out, so since ive done dozens of swaps in hondas and make BIG power i knew i wanted an sr or ca. and now i need to have the car running my thursday for work and i havent even sourced a motor...

^^^ like i stated above i need to find a complete motorset as well and maybe even someone in the bay area to come lend a hand and some knowledge on the swap, ill buy beer and food lol

well guys thanx in advance.

I just used the SR write up on heavythrottle.com It's basically the same swap as far as wiring goes. If you search theres plenty of info on the swap. Good luck to you.

Disconnect from the pumpkin. Should be (4) 14mm bolts with nuts.

The easiest way to remove the shifter is to just unbolt the whole assembly from the transmission. There's six bolts; four are accessible from the inside through the shifter hole and the other two you'll have to crawl under the car with a small open wrench. Space is tight but it's not too bad. They're on the outside edge of the shifter facing the engine.

Don't bother taking out the condenser until you have the engine out. Either tie the compressor off to the side of the car or get the freon evacuated from the system and take out the compressor completely. I pulled my compressor off because I didn't want it in the way, but the freon was already out of the system. It is illegal to put R12 in the atmosphere...

ok i got the shifter unbolted but it still wont come out. do i have to remove the C clamp under the boot or should i just try and pry the shifter off????

and for the drive shaft removal i have to disconnect from the pumpkin??? or there is like 6 bolts connecting the transmission to the driveshaft the head of the bolts are 19mm and the nuts are 17mm do i have to undo those ???

I always take the snap ring off. By far the easiest method.

disconnect the four bolts from the diff and the shaft and then remove the (2) 17mm bolts holdint the driveshaft bearing clamp in the middle of the shaft. the shaft is slid into and out of the transmission so once u have the 4 diff bolts and 2 bearing bolts removed, slid out the shaft. make sure u have removed gear fluid before u slide it out otherwise ull lose fluid and make a mess. To remove the shifter, remove panels from inside so u can see the bare shifter sitting in the transmission. use c-clamp pliers or really skinny needle nose to fit in the two holes on the clamp and squeeze to close clamp and use a screw driver to pop it out and then the shifter lifts right out of the transmission.

Nah, not if you have an APC shift knob stuck to the shifter from a stupid previous owner. Piece of crap wouldn't come off (set screws ftl), so I couldn't get the other boots off. Pulling the whole shifter off = easiest way.

BTW, if you do it this way, you just pry the whole shifter plate off. There's a gasket on there that makes it stick together.

You'll need a DOHC tachometer as well. It's pretty much the same as an SR swap...
