hey everyone, i was wondering what would be the best parts to rebuild on my 1990 ka24e, it has 160k miles on it and its timing is off, im not the greatest mechanic but i wanna learn, ne one no how to fix timeing chain??

I was also wondering if that was even the right thing to do or should i just buy a new stock motor and work from there??

I think you should buy a new stock motor. A KA24DE. And do a rebuild on that motor. Parts that you should replace for a full rebuild.........Pistons, Rods, Valve Springs, Camshafts, Cam Gears, Racing Pulleys. That's just the head and block. You'll want to replave the fuel system..... Injectors, Fuel Rail, Fuel Pump, Fuel Pressure Regulator, ECU, etc. Then just all of the bolt on mods....... Exhaust, Intake, maybe a turbo. There too many things to list.

sorry but if you don't think you could do the valvesprings then i don't think you could do the rebuild yourself.

you should leave it up to someone who is more experienced

Read up and do some studying buy an extra motor and take your time at your own pace. The local book store or library has some decent books also get a FSM(Factory Service Manual) if you don't have one already. Don't be discouraged, I'm sure there are some people locally that would help you out if you ran into trouble or didn't feel comfortable.

Man, get a SR. SR r00lZ!!!

Seriously, all in all. The KAE is a simple motor to rebuild. You must first buy a FSM, and have quite a bit of time. Cause you will want to take your time and LEARN as much as possible while doing it. Pull the motor, mount it. Take it apart and have fun! Follow the steps in the FSM precisley. And ask questions here if you get stuck.

If you decide to rebuild it yourself. Put everything back in the exact same spot you took it off. And while its apart, get it hottanked and cleaned, looks so much better.
