My engine developed a knock a few days ago that is believed to be the rod bearings.Would a re-ring kit be sufficient to get rid of it?It includes: complete gasket set, main bearings, rod bearings, thrust washers (if applicable) and a premium ring set.I haven't started taking things apart to assess the damage yet, I'd just like to hear your thoughts.

The reason why I don't want to do a full rebuild is I'm trying to sell the car so I don't want to put more money into than I have to.

I'm hoping that a local KA24E will pop up for sale locally so I could just swap the engine altogether instead, but time is a factor as I need this car gone asap.

Thanks in advance.

You wont know till you tear the motor apart and look at/ mic the crank. If it has knock, it usually has crank journal damage though which means you at LEAST need a new crank or a regrind.

Alright, well the shop that inspected the car yesterday said it might have a cracked piston =/Either way, I'm just waiting to hear back from the people who were interested in the car to see what they'd be willing to pay if they were to buy the car as is.Otherwise, I'll be tearing into the engine soon to assess the damage.

Yeah, it was more for the guy who wants to buy it that I was asking for.If they don't buy it, and if the engine's actually f***ed I'll just try and find another KA and swap it in.

But apparently now the shop said it has a cracked cylinder wall?!Forgive me if I'm wrong, but would I not be suffering from severe power loss if that was the case? Which I am definitely not. They quoted like $8000 to swap in a new engine (APPARENTLY Nissan is still making KA24E's..who knew? LOL)

So I'm gonna have some people at another shop look at it and then meet up with these guys with my buddy to try to explain everything to them.

8000 to swap in an engine is a lot. Wonder how much the Ka costs.. Damn im going to call my dealer and see if they have any ka24de longblocks for 240's..

K the remaned SOHC, the only motor for a 240 is offered from Nissan is 2250 my price. So they are getting you for a crap ton of labor lol. There is no DE available from nissan.

Oh they are definitely charging out the a** for labour. But I'm sorry, this is a 20 year old car with 320,xxx kms and some rust, you sure as hell wouldn't swap in a brand new engine, that's just ridiculous.Single cams can be had for a couple hundred bucks here and if you have some guys who know what they're doing, usually the only labour you're paying for is a case of beer and grilling up some burgers.

It's unfortunate that they don't want to buy the car because this shop is quoting them for anything and everything when all the car needs is maybe $500 of work and some elbow grease.

I told them I was going to have another place look at it and then hopefully I can talk to them and clear up all the BS.
