Well first off let me introduce myself as i am new here but ive been trolling over this forum for a while now. Names Dennis and I purchased a 1990 240 about 2 weeks go and it was running fine up until now. The engine is a stock ka24e and I believe it has anywhere from 150,000 miles on it to 175,000 miles on it, the man I purchased the car from said it was rebuilt (dont know if i still believe that anymore) anywho i was on my way to a friends house last night and my car started acting weird (started hearing a loud rattle noise and i could feel the shifter shaking alot more then it regularly does) so i made it to my friends house which is a 5 minute drive away from mine and I go to turn around so I can park out front and my power steering isnt working as if the belt had came off or snapped. so I popped the hood to see what was wrong and it looked like everything was fine checked the tension on all the belts and they were all right . So i assumed everything was fine at that point and went and hung out for an hour or to then upon leaving my friends I start the car to go back home and it seems as if it drive fine other then the noise and shaking shifter so i continue to drive and i start to smell antifreeze as if my car was overheating, temp gauge said it wasnt but those fail. I did not see any type of smoke at that point so i figured i could make it to my house so at least if it breaks down it will be at my house i get one light away from my house and start noticing my engine smoking out of the right hand side (my overflow tank has a gigantic hole in it) i decided to drive the rest of the way home since i was so close. got home and popped my hood and my coolant was boiling. I know my water pump could have went bad causing that to happen. I looked at it today in the sunlight and i noticed my idler pulley was wobbling quite viciously as the car idled. took all 3 of my belts of and it seems like the idler pulley has wobbled itself off the shaft and is only held on by the bolt in the center.

so my question is if I put the pulley back on will all th other problems like overheating and no power steering stop?

I would really like to know because i dont want to go out and purchase parts to fix it if it was just the idler pulley not being on all the way.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Just buy a nee idler. You won't be able to diagnose the issue all the belts are working properly. I do know that the power steering has its own belt and idler so you might have multiple issues going on there. It is possible that you just for to low on coolant and the power steering is having its own issue. Look on here for the bleeding procedure for your radiator because.the coolant system on the ka motor is very finicky.

just got it fixed after spending all day on it. test drove it for a few miles engine didn't overheat power steering worked perfectly. main problem was because of the idler pulley not being tightened all the way on and the crankshaft key was shattered into 3 pieces.
ill bleed the coolant system tomorrow when its daytime and im not tired as hell :)
