hello, i have an '89 240sx coupe. it has the 2.4 liter in it. my first problem is a starting mystery. i have a brand new battery(dont know if it matters but i have a sidepost with adaptors, but it is supposed to be original top post?). the alternator is charging it while running between 14.1 and 14.7 volts(according to my multimeter). i also tested the alternator and it is in normal operating condition and is doing its job. i can let the car run for about 10 to 15 minutes, but when i turn it off and try to start it up 4 or 5 senconds later-it DEAD, and needs a jump!!-WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT?!?!?!?! My second problem is the way the car is running. my timing is right on point, but the car is not accellerating anywhere near what it should be-it is very sluggish. could it be a switch or sensor? i pulled the plug on the throttle position sensor and the idle(while is about at 750rpm) remains the same, also when i worked the throttle, it remained the same-does this indicated a faulty throttle position sensor?? Please, if anyone has any insight on this matter or knows anything, HELP ME!!(don't have enough money for the sr20det yet, so i gotta get this running right in the meantime). thanks alot...

probably a battery that's either not holding its charge if you're reading ~14v across the battery terminals. when was the last time you replaced the battery?

so wait, for clarification, you tried to start the car with the tps unplugged?

no, the car was running and i unplugged it-the idle stayed the same, even when i gave it some gas. is the sensor working properly?

well if you gave it gas with the tps plugged in and it did not respond, then you've probably a tps issue. if you pulled the tps and tried to give it gas expecting something different, you've got no smoking gun...
