Alright, my car keeps overheating. I have an aftermarket temp gauge and it stays around 175 then after like 20 minutes or so the temp gauge shoots up to around 210. I turned the car off and the overflow tank was full and i checked the upper and lower radiator hose and they were very hot and then i felt the radiator and it was cold.

It keeps on doing this every time i run it. Does anybody have any idea what is causing this? Could it be air in the system?

are u using a nissan thermostat? aftermarket (autozone etc) tend to suck, and did u bleed all the air from the coolant system?

i have a ka24e as well, just tried to change my t-stat today and decided i would flush the coolant instead, what i do to bleed is jack the front end as high as i can. then open the radiator cap and pour in coolant, squeeze the upper hose to suck in the coolant and to let out some air, then run the engine while squeezing upper hose to burp air and continuously add coolant after pushing the throttle cable (since this sucks in the coolant), after about 20-30 min u should be free of air.

yeah i purchased a thermostat from the nissan dealer. i jacked the front of the car up as high as i could and i did what you described. but a lil bit of air keeps coming up over and over again.

i think im going to pressure test the cooling system because i feel like i may have a very small head gasket leak or something. i did check for white exhaust, oily coolant or milky oil and i had none of the symptoms but i spent an hour burping it and an endless supply of air bubbles keep coming.

i can drive it for about 20 minutes and it will run at exactly 175 degrees but then all of a sudden the temp will jump up to 210 and the overflow tank will fill up and then the temp drops back to 175.

could this be caused by a small leak in the headgasket allowing air into the engine?????

or could the intake manifold gasket around the coolant passage be allowing air in?? i was wondering because i have a an excessive manufacturing thermal intake manifold gasket and i didnt use any sealant or anything besides that so idk if that could have a small leak.
