ka24e oil light flickering on and off;help please

Hello, The oil light in my 1990 nissan axxess van is flickering on and off sometimes. When I check the oil level it is fine. I was having a loud ticking noise coming from the valve trane. Thought it might be air in the lifters so I idled the engine at 2500 rpm for about 5 minutes and it went away. I couldn't believe it. Drove the van around for about 10 minutes and the oil light started its thing and soon after the ticking was back. Does this sound like an oil supply problem to you guys, maybe the oil pump. Also, the oil light only seems to come on when you stop, not while you are driving. Sorry for such a long post.
