So I just got done swapping my head on my ka, I also swapped the intake manifold. The problem is that anything past 50% throttle it has no power. It does not misfire or shake or anything just doesnt make power. It idols fine and revs fine in neutral.

Just when its under load it seems to stop making power. There arent any vacuum leaks Im pretty sure, because it idols fine and revs fine in netruel.

The compression is good, timing is perfect, no misfiring. The car was running before too just fine, just had a horrible noise coming from the old head that wasnt the lifters. So I swapped the head with another.

I'll give ya a bump because i have a very similar problem. Did about the same thing, only took the head off to have a look around and upgrade some parts. Once it went back on, car wont accelerate like i feel it should. Anything above that 50% mark does nothing, its like it doesn't get the extra fuel or something. But yeah, revs wherever you want just fine in park/neutral.

Exactly what im talking about, its like its leaning out. The only thing I can think of is MAF or O2 sensor. What I dont get is why they worked before, and not now. Maybe the wiring when we took off the wiring harness got messed up in the process?

i agree it sounds like the cam is off a tooth or 2. you need to double check the cam timing to ensure it is right on.

you should be able to check that with just the valve cover removed.with the #1 cylinder at tdc on the compression stroke ( you can check that by the timing marks on the crank pulley )the cam sprocket KEYWAY should be at exactly the 12 o'clock position. new chains come with different colored links to line up with the marks on the sprockets, but by the service manual you set the timing just as I described.

Thanks for the help but Ive done timing chains before. It turns out it was the timing chain.

It must of jumped a tooth on initial start up because low oil pressure. It was probably still bleeding it all through the new head and passages through the block and didnt have enough pressure at the tensioner.

I'm glad you found the problem. I've had the timing chain jump several times due to a lack of oil pressure to the tensioner on initial startup (not a ka24e but other engines) so that wouldnt surprise me.

that would also make sense for my problem seeing as how we took off the head to do some work to the car. Could the cam timing being off cause smoke to come from the exhaust? The smoke is only from the 4th cylinder (as proven by pulling the spark coil).
