Yeah got a 90' 240 and with the smart recomendation of a friend and letting him do it we used some top engine cleaner (gum cutter, carbon cleaner, whatever you want to call it) on my engine by taking the plugs out, pouring it in the cylinders, letting it set for 30min or so, then turning it over with the plugs out to get the crap out. After replacing the plugs it smoked quite a bit then ran like crap for 10-15min. Now when it idles in drive it misfires relative badly...to me anyway. When its in park or neutral there is no misfire, and there is no noticable misfire when you give it gas or driving. If your stopped in drive and it misfires and you give it enough gas for 1000rpm it dosent misfire. I fear a valve has gotten carbon under it or something and I risk burning a valve, but im a body man and certainly no mechanic. Help would be greatly appreciated!

if its a carbon issue another decarb treatment may help. that really is a good treatment you guys did. i do it all the time. get a compression test as the carbon can only kill a cyl with compression loss. also, did you clean around the plugs/wires well? a little oil or carbon can cause the plug and wire to arc under load. may be a good idea to get plugs, wires, cap and rotor(all oem of course) just as part of the tune up.

Tonight I got a rotor button, cap, plugs, wires, and a compression tester. I tested the compression and cylinders 1&2 were around 150, and cylinders 3&4 were around 140. But other than that a buddy of mine installed all the parts and it runs as good if not better that it did before. Thanks for the advice man.

i did that to my 90 also..

it had never been done in 14 years and it actually was very hard to do..

i used seafoam on it.. and i actually had to replace the spark plugs because there was so much carbon on them they didn't fire. haha.

best of luck, about 2 monts later it still smokes from the seafoam.
