After a recent timing chain replacment on my 1990 nissan pickup the truck idles good and runs decent on the interstate but has a terrible miss off the line and will not take gas at all i had the dark timing marks lined with the marks on the gears and the distibutor is close to the marks i originally made does anyone have any idea what could be going on?

Sounds like it and timing light will confirm that, cause you will not be able to adjust it back in time if it is off a tooth

The timing is set right now and the motor runs excellent until the motor warms up to operating temperature and then the miss returns

Did you pull out the oil pump to reset the distributor? Was the engine at TDC when you did this?

All the wiring is hooked up properly? No vacuum leaks? Just throwing out ideas now. How'd it run before you did the chain on it?

Yeah everything looks good it ran perfect before without timing guides and this is actually my second time messing with the chain i had it timed right and running good when it suddenly started missing and not taking gas so i figured that it had some how jumped time but after breaking it all back down and finding nothing wrong im beginning to wander what has happened

I'm at a loss. There must be something really small wrong. TPS is wired up?

Plug wires aren't crappy? Cap is not cracked or worn out? Coil checks out?

I replaced the wires dist. Cap button the entire coil with no luck its running like its out of time (no power, backfire black backfires when u let off gas and still the damn miss in the bottom end is it possible the marked dark sections on the timing chain are incorrect? I know it only aligns one way I bought the chain off ebay and my only mode of transport being down is killing me

That could be but I haven't heard of something like that happening on any forums to date. Have you checked the computer for any codes?

I have a 93 FSM and it recommends checking the following for a warm engine hesitation.

-Fuel Pressure Regulator and/or fuel pressure-Canister Purge-Check for air leaks

I would check to make sure the EGR is working properly and not at idle or under acceleration. It should only operate when the engine is warm and while cruising.

The Idle Air Control Valve could be acting up.

And lastly Nissan says it could be intake valve deposits.

Have you ever opened the dizzy and looked at the chopper disk. If it has some gunk covering a hole or two this could happen But I bet you would get a code and a CEL.

Maybe while it was out some gunk in there got moved around and covered a hole. I don't think engine would run well at low speed with this but at high speed it wouldn't matter as much.

I agree it sounds more like running out of timing though.Putting the oil pump and shaft in takes practice.

You need 4 hands to do this. Take the cap back off then set the engine to TDC according to the ticks on the balancer. Then remove the oil pump. The rotor should spin freely now. Set it to face where the #1 spark plug wire would be on the cap if the cap were on. Have a friend hold the distributor in place while you line up the oil pump and spindle. You can turn the rotor a fraction of a degree each way to help line things up but nothing more than that. The pump should fall into placed. Once it's in place get the bolts in there, don't let it slip back out.

The tdc mark is the mark just to the right of the farthest notch correct?
