I have a question on what my timing should be set at, I have an 1989 ka24e, so i believe the stock timing should be 15 btdc, mine is at 17btdc, but i am not turbo yet. I am wonderring how much timing I should retard for 4-5lbs of boost. should I set my timing to 12-13 btdc? to be safe? Also i know I need to disconnect the tps to adjust timing, but can any one write how to adjust/retard the timing in steps, I have a feeling I know how to do it, but I just want to make shure thanks

Someone chime in, this is a good question (as I myself have been wondering about it too). Could you just twist the distributor, while monitoring the timign with the timing gun, until it's around 10-12btdc? Or is there anything else involved? Eventually I'll buy a MSD BTM, but until then I'd still like to be on the safe side, and retard the timing "manually".

So that makes two SOHC guys wondering what's up.

Axxess, Stanza, 240SX1) Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature(coolant gauge needle in middle). Open engine compartment hood and runengine at 2000 RPM for 2 minutes. Perform self-diagnostic procedure.See G - TESTS W/CODES article. Check for smooth engine operation.2) Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM, 2 or 3 times, thenallow engine to return to idle. Check idle speed and ignition timing.See 4-CYLINDER IGNITION TIMING table. See Fig. 1. If ignition timingis correct, check idle mixture.3) If ignition timing is incorrect, disconnect throttleposition sensor harness connector. If engine speed is more than 800RPM, reduce idle speed with idle speed adjusting screw. See Fig. 2 or3.4) Recheck ignition timing. If timing is incorrect, loosenhold-down bolt and turn distributor. With ignition timing correctlyset, reconnect throttle position sensor. Check idle speed, oxygensensor and idle mixture.

I have mine set to 10 degrees or so. 12 is probably still safe on low boost. I have a btm but I haven't been able to get the pos to work right.
